Recenlty I posted a blue high number 2nd model. This is another 2nd model 44 hand ejector. The frame is a left over WW 1 frame, letters as nickle and has original finish. The finish looks better than the photo.
Shipped November 20, 1923 to Shapleigh Hardware St. Louis, MO.

6" Nickle .44 HE2. I have one of those as well... not as near as nice as yours. Came out of the West Virginia Coal Fields. I should letter it as it's date of manufacture is just before the Coal Wars.

Mine (22114) went to Shapleigh Hardware September 2, 1924 and probably ought to have grips like your. Not quite as nice, but I've enjoyed it for about 15 years. Does yours still have the cylinder hold-open spring and plunger?

Hope you do letter it. There is a lot of history down that way; Hatfields and McCoys, Sid Hatfield vs the Pinkerton in Mingo county, etc.

My 2nd Model has a little coal history, SN 156xx Shipped Dec 9,1920
to Kentucky Mine Supply Company., in Middlesboro KY.

I recently picked up a .44 HE 2nd Model Target which shipped to Stone, KY, in Pike Co., in December, 1927. That's about 15 miles from Matewan. Purchasers last name was the same as a big coal equipment company.
I guess the .44 Spl. was popular in that region for some reason. Maybe coal miners wore thick coats and you needed some "ooomph" to get through 'em??
