This morning I went to the range for the second time with my new M&P9 M2.0 compact. It was an enjoyable and positive session.

I was able to put down a lot of ammo in the short time I had to spend. The ammo I used for the session was all factory-new. I do not shoot reloads anymore.

This is what I shot:
150 rounds Sellers & Beloit FMJ 115gr
50 rounds Federal HST 124gr
50 rounds Fiocchi JHP 124gr
50 rounds Freedom XTP 124gr

All 300 rounds loaded, fired and ejected without a single mechanical failure. Now, counting both times at the range so far, 600 rounds have been spent successfully. I am really pleased with my compact for in the past I have had a few sidearms that had trouble during their break-in phase.

The balance of the M2.0 is excellent. The gripping surface of the pistol is infused with pebble-like material that provides a strong tactile feel on the grip. These two factors help to make recoil quite soft.

I replaced the OEM white dot front sight with a Hiviz front fiber optic sight and blacked out the dots on the rear sight. This eliminated the conflict I have had using the triangle of three dots converging and creating sight confusion. Doing this made realignment on target after recoil much easier and faster for me.

I placed my targets seven yards from the firing line and slow shot two-hand isosceles, two-hand point-shooting and single right and left hand Weaver. I shot only a few double and triple taps.

My accuracy shooting with one hand is bad. I simply no longer have the arm and hand control to keep the pistol level when I squeeze the trigger. I continue to train with one hand hoping that I never have to only use one hand to shoot to protect myself.

Shooting with two hands, the hits were fair to excellent. Hopefully, after more practice sessions, my accuracy with the M2.0 compact will reach the same level as that of my Ruger GP-100 and Ed Brown Class A Limited.

I am veryhappy with the purchase of this fine compact pistol.

I really really like my new 9 Compact 2.0 too. I’ve had mine for just 2 weeks now and made a quick stop at the club last nite for a second range outing. But....my trip was simply to see if my secondary SD rounds (home rolled) would function properly, and also to evaluate for any signs of over pressure. I had to shorten the OAL from 1.125 to 1.070 to get it to pass the plunk test, and I was already near published max pressure at the 1.125 length. All is fine now, and all of the brass looks perfect.

"I'm glad you're happy with the new gun. But comparing it to an Ed Brown is a little bit of a stretch"

Thank you Rastoff for your response.
I do not consider my new M&P9 M2.0 compact to be the same overall quality as my Ed Brown pistols. The level of material, build and craftsmanship of the Ed Brown 1911 pistols are in my opinion, superior to any other factory pistols. In fact, I think them on the same level of quality as those made for me by master pistolsmith Ed Cameron of Glendale, AZ.

I meant by my statement that today based upon my age and physical state, I am only capable of achieving a certain level of accuracy with any pistol whether it be the finest quality such as an Ed Brown or an M&P9 as long as that pistol is reliable and consistent.

After my shooting the MP9, I found it fit me so well and seemed to be both reliable and consistent, positive training and adaption to the unique characteristics of the MP9 should enable me to achieve a similar degree of accuracy as I have with an Ed Brown or for that matter, any pistol I shoot.

Hello. The grip texture on my new 2.0 9 Compact is a little too rough for my hands after 50 or so rounds. Love the gun... but recommendations/experience re: how to reduce the abrasion. Sand down grip techniques or possible grip overlay? Thanks in advance...Ed the OldGoat.

Ed, just give her a little love with some fine sandpaper; don't over do it just a little at a time until you feel a difference. There are also some nice rubber grips from Hogue and others which you can slide on if you prefer.

I continue to train with one hand hoping that I never have to only use one hand to shoot to protect myself.
Good idea. We took it one step more; we usually try to spend some time shooting off-handed or weak-handed; so if you normally shoot strong right handed, force yourself to train shooting with the left hand, or vice versa. I feel like this was a huge step for me last year, and I'm now nearly as comfortable with either right or left.

One guy put a 1.0 rear grip panel on his 2.0.

Carbuff, That's a handsome EB 1911 you have there. Love the combination of SS frame, black slide and wood grip panels. Very sharp looking.

Thank you. This EB handles as well as it looks.

Attached is another view of it highlighting its bull barrel.

The photo is grainy with poor color.
