My first trip to the range with my Shield was not a positive one as I reported earlier. Today i put another 150 rounds through it using some of the suggestions that I have read here such as grip and trigger pull with first knuckle and starting out at closer range. As well as remembering that it is not a target pistol per say. With that in mind I felt a lot better after todays shoot. I felt more comfortable with grip even though I am still feeling a little slip when fired. I shoot much better with extended mag than flat bottom one.
After I shot my Shield I put another 300 hundred through my M&P 22. Love that gun!!!
Looking forward to my next trip with the Shield

I picked up my new .40 Shield today and rushed to the range to test it out. Great results for this terrific little pistol. I was amazed at it lack of recoil. Smith has done a magnificent job at tuning this pistols weight frame and spring to handle even the shortest loads. I put 25 165gr double taps , 50 of my 155gr Hormady XTP full power loads, and 25 blazer brass 180gr thru it without a problem of any kind.
Shot low and left at first part me part the sights, factory had the front sight offset to the right. Once I changed my contact point of trigger finger shots came up then aimed 2 inches right I started placing them closer and into the bull and 9 ring.
I am used to Glock 4 pound triggers but one I got used to the unexpectedly smooth shield trigger adjusted really well . This is my 1st M&P and want to find out how to properly take down beyond field strip so I can buff up the contact points.

Great gun and will only get better with more ammo down range.

My Shield 40 trigger needs work. The trigger bar causes the "gritty" feeling pushing the striker safety up. The pull has a measured 7 pounds, which is too much. I want to reduce it to around 4 pounds. I am going to modify the sear and striker safety to smooth the pull and reduce pull weight. I have figured out how to minimize trigger pretravel and overtravel. With these changes it should be a good shooter. It is not a target gun, but I want the trigger action to be better.
