Secret Service selects.....

The people on the pointiest end of the US Spear have been almost exclusively Glock for the last decade. SOCOM elements have expressed a clear preference for the Glock 19 and have used their unit purchase authority to buy Glock in preference to everything else. Marine Special Ops even passed on the hand-built .45 Colts for the lowly Glock 19. My understanding is Army SOCOM units are still buying G19s while being issued the new Sig M17. The SIGs will likely be rack-only guns required of any infantry unit, but not actually issued for field use.

And don’t forget, the P320 is at least SIG’s third attempt of a polymer gun over the last 15 years. Similar issues with some of the early M&P 40s, which didn’t perform well when issues. I can’t recall any Federal agencies issuing those.

Gaston Glock just built a better mousetrap. His guns were cheap, simplistic and designed to be cost effective to mass produce. They also are highly fault tolerant, both with the shooter and in the maintenance. My Sheriffs Office made everyone turn in their issued Glock once a year for ultrasonic cleaning (and an armorer’s inspection) during annual inservice. I would guess a large number of the guns only were cleaned that once a year, but they were unbelievably reliable.

This comes as no surprise, as most agencies seem to be returning to 9mm. It would have been nice to see them adopt the Glock 32, as I always liked how the USSS used the .357 Sig cartridge.

As far as them buying American, I believe there are somethings we are the best at. Tabasco is the best pepper sauce, our cigarettes are better, as are Zippo lighters. We make the best revolvers, the best 1911s, and the fact that companies like HK have implemented the AR design into their products show that the Colt/Stoner designed AR-15 is truly the world class rifle. But sometimes other people make good things. The Scots make the best whisky, the Germans make the best cars, and Austria makes the best striker fired pistol. They have a factory here in the United States, as does Beretta. To me that says they value the United States as a customer.
