This thread reminded me of the easy connection between security and RV'ing. Show me your other equipment, your RV, or your rig and a scenic spot.

Devils Tower in the distance (wife took a pic of me taking a pic) pretty cool...

Arctic Fox, Good looking rig. You might look into a set of Firestone air bags to bring the back of your truck up. That or raise your hitch or lower your pin box. It's better on your trailer tires and suspension if they're leveled out. Greetings from Elkhart, Indiana...Once the RV capital, now the unemployment capital.

This is my RV at the Tetons.

This is my idea of RV security. 11-87 police& folding 870 both with 00 in the magazine, and a mix of slugs and 00 on the outside.

This seems to be the only one I have online at the moment. Not very scenic I guess. This is at one of the state parks on the WA coast and as usual with my memory I can't remember the name of it. Grayson, Grayland, Gray something I think...

Yes, that's it, Grayland. Kind of out of the way as WA coastal state parks go, but the park is nicer than Ocean Shores state park to its south and the walk to the beach is mostly level unlike Kalaloch state park to its north. What I really like about it is the sites are well designed for privacy between them. There are also some really nice sites right down on the water that are just on the other side of the sand mound from the ocean.

We usually drive into westport and buy crab off of the fishing boats as they return to port in the afternoon. Few things better then relaxing around the evening campfire drinking a nice beverage and munching on truly fresh crab.

You will probably want to do the online reservation thing as soon as you have some possible dates.

Yea, I'll do something here shortly. We were at the Lake Monroe RV Park for a week in '06. Went into Bloomington a couple of times. We liked Indiana. Hope you stay employed...

I see this is the only pic I have on photobucket.
JeepnScamp.jpg

16' Scamp pulled by our '97 Jeep Wrangler somewhere in northern California, on our way home from running the Rubicon Trail. We've pulled that Scamp for over 30K miles behind the Jeep. Airlift airbags inside the rear coil springs pumped to 25# keeps the Jeep level, a sway control helps keep the camper towing straight on the Interstate, and a year ago I replaced the 4.0 six with a 5.7 hemi V-8. Now I can pull mountain grades faster than 25mph, and run into prairie headwinds faster than 50! Believe it or not, my fuel mileage is about the same to 1 mpg better than with the six.

What a cool thread...thanks guys you have officially fed my RV frenzy...going hunting this weekend. Love that Scamp, that is way cool.

To give you an idea on how big the camper is, that's a big 3500 Dually. When the camper's loaded, it weighs in around 5k pounds.

OK, I'm taking a trip down memory lane now.

I had this 4X4 van camper after my first wife divorced me. She didn't like to travel, let alone camping, so there was some frantic camping and travel that went on with my kids after the divorce, and before my kids went off to college. Wasn't up to tent camping with 2 kids as a single parent, so....

Lots of good memories.

Here's the first trip, by myself, to Mother Neff State Park. Shakedown cruise.

Here's one of the trips with the kids to Port Aransas:

That's the nice thing about a 4X4 camper van, you can go camping in a few places that a regular RV or fifth wheel can't go. 4X4 pickup campers have similar capabilities, especially if they are the poptop versions, so they don't have clearance issues.

Here's a trip by myself to a Sportsmobile get together in Moab to go fourwheeling:

The ambulance was for the Marlboro Man commercial they were filming. In case those cowboys hurt themselves, need to take them to the hospital right away.

Here's part of the herd at a natural bridge:

Great thread. AFox, aren't you a tibbie fan? I had an overloaded 1/2 ton and Timbren load levelers sure helped me. You don't have much sag, bet they would work for you, too.

I love your van set up glpnir. That natural bridge rally looks like fun. I camped in an E150 for years and always envied the extended length pop ups.

Back in 1963/1965 I lived in a 17 ft travel trailer. I was a foreman on jobs that took me to a different state every month or two. In those days I seldom if ever paid for hookups or parking. When traveling I would simply pull over in a gravel pit near the road, or maybe behind a vacant filling station, maybe a old farm field or whatever. I know you cant get away with that nowdays. In those days it made sense owning a trailer then.
These days I am not convinced from a money standpoint it is in anyway wise to own a RV from a financial standpoint, of course there are other reasons to.
Figure the cost of the trailer, the maintance, the insurance, the cost of all that money tied up, then the cost of the hookups, the extra gas of pulling the outfit, (or motor home) and I am here to tell you, you cant be saveing a dime from moteling it!
Now if money isnt to be considered, sure, there are reasons to have one. Just dont fool yourself its remotely possible to RV from a enconomic standpoint!

Yes, we travel with a Tibetan Spaniel, An English Cocker and a Doberman. All of them crate trained. The Doberman pays his way though...we don't make reservations in advance so where we end up is where we end up. Well, every once in a while we will end up at an RV Park that is questionable. If we don't move on we walk the Doberman around the park once or twice then go to sleep while the Doberman keeps an eye on things.
