Sedgley Mark IV flare gun?

Hi. Does anyone know if this flare gun, the Sedgley Mark IV, will fire shotgun shells? I have an old 1932 catalog from R.F. Sedgley that lists a signal pistol that will fire "12 gauge full shotgun loads", but it doesn't say if this is the Mark IV version or not. The one in the catalog looks very similar to the Mark IV, but maybe the Mark IV has an aluminum barrel or something, while the one in the catalog is listed as having a blued steel barrel. Thanks for any information. Just curious...
