I inherited two pre-war revolvers I want to bring back to shooting condition. They should be mechanically sound, but I want that verified. Clean, check timing, replace any badly worn parts, that sort of thing.

I would vastly prefer to have the work done locally here in San Diego area.

Can anyone recommend a 'smith or somewhere else to search for one?

Thank you

Man, I have yet to hear of anyone really satisfied with any local smith, the least complaints that I pesonally have heard is Duncan's. I believe they are in the San Marcos area. But there have been a few stories about lack of customer service there. Again, not my experience, but overheard at the range.

There is one other place called Wholesale Guns in Santee, though I have no gun repair experience with them either, they are a very small friendly shop which I frequent to see what the local talent has. The owner is the smith, I think his name is Jim.

The only other places period are gun shops, El Cajon Gun Exchange, Discount Guns, Turner's, SoCal Guns, and La Mesa Fine Guns. Any of which may be able to help guide you in the right direction.

I have not sent my revolvers to anyone locally for years, since the only real smith in town passed long ago. (Dwyer)

There may be some in the LA area, which isn't too bad of a drive, especially if it's anywhere near a few other gun shops to check out while you drop it off and pick it up.
I have had shotgun work done at Bolsa's and I know that a few of the local gun shops have sent their work to them so I would feel somewhat comfortable there. I think that they also have a website. They did a superb job on my shotgun when I needed work done, but obviously that's not a revolver.

Good luck and please let me know if you find a good one, I would like to 'announce' it to the range creeps.

S&w revolver repairs

Do what I eventually did and send them to The Gunsmith-Nelson Ford in Phoenix, AZ. The shipping fees are high and the work is excellent. I had two post war 38/44's redone and couldn't be happier. The communication is good and the workmanship is first class!!

I'm located in Monterey Park (near Pasadena). If you get up this way I can work on them. Old wheel guns are my thing. John
