My boy is 12 and is classified as Marskman SSP in IDPA and is getting better and better. Honor Roll and has letters of recommendations from teachers and from our local match director. Any generous sponsors out there? This is an outstanding young man.

maybe time to match your resources to your desires? how about just shooting 22LR for a bit, and encouraging him to get out and earn some $$$. shovel snow, mow lawns, house sit, wash cars.... that's what i did when i was a kid and wanted more $$ than dad gave me in my allowance. if he works for it, he'll appreciate it a lot more. and learn the value of a dollar and how much work equates to a box of ammo.

We love IDPA, USPSA, and Steel Challenges. But boy does this get expensive! My boy is 12 and is classified as Marskman SSP in IDPA and is getting better and better. Honor Roll and has letters of recommendations from teachers and from our local match director. Any generous sponsors out there? This is an outstanding young man.

Not to be a total father of six jerk, but the 2 gents above hit the nail on the head..

While my oldest daughter was suspened from school I bought her a vette to bribe her to do well & behave in school - she ran away & her aunt gave her a car to kill herself in. (very angry dad)

next gal passed up a scholorship to Cornell & Elmira uni's to live with johnny speed racer in a trailer, thank the Lord she dumped him, struggled and is finally a RN on her own & engaged to a nice guy (proud dad)

next gal - 12yrs old don't like country living, wants to be able to walk to stores = Bye Bye GONE (sad dad)

next boy - brainiac attends a private coll with near a full scholorship (this makes parents proud)

next boy, graduated HS early left for ft benning right after xmas still 17 went off to ft lee came home & attends same private Coll with a real nice scholorship, reserves, ROTC (this makes parents proud)

Next girl - graduates june, going to do the RN thing with her sister in Va. moody PITA spoiled brat. (to be determined)

All 6 of my kids are spoiled brats, last 3 did 4H shotgun & rimfire, NOBODY donated them Citori's or Ruger 10/22s, mom & i did, the 3 youngest at home shoot IDPA, they pay their own way or they don't play the game.

Fact of life - You get what you give in life, the sooner the child understands it the sooner they can go out and make things happen for themselves "as the gents above have spelled it out"

Have your boy make his way instead of you asking for charity / hand-outs for him :(

Sorry if my post is a rant, its honestly my perception of raising children last 28 yrs :(

in a quiet hour, perhaps your son would profit from some good reading, Thoreau in particular.

his chapter on Economy is a good read.

1 - Economy, Walden - Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

this sums it up well:

"The cost of a thing is the amount of what I call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run."

Henry David Thoreau

wish you and your son well.
