'The Hunter' Trailer HD - YouTube

My brother saw this film on a pay site and mentioned it. It involves a mercenary (Willem Dafoe) paid to find and kill a Tasmanian Tiger. (Thyllacine). (Some still think it isn't extinct.)

The Aussie cast includes Sam Neill and Callan Mulvey. I think it's filmed in Tasmania.

Was it good? My brother is not good at descriptions and is politically unlike me, and doesn't know one gun from another. I want reviews from members here, whose opinions might parallel mine.

Did you recognize the gun(s)? Was it a good movie, or just a tear-jerker made to villify hunters and to dwell on endangered species, from an eco-hugger viewpoint? Was it likely to be PETA sympathetic?

Trying to decide whether to seek it out when it comes out on DVD, if it hasn't yet.

Dafoe is a good actor, as is Sam Neill. What's the name of that movie where he and Nicole Kidman were on a boat taken over by Billy Zane? "Dead Calm?"

Callan Mulvey was the longtime guy of one of my fantasy actresses, Lara Cox. Lara took a year off from her own acting career to nurse Mulvey after he was in a bad wreck. He has a good rep in Aussie adventure TV series; is probably a good actor. But a strong cast can't save a "message" movie.

Just wondering if any of you saw it, and your reaction.

Ain't seen it,but I probably will. Willem Dafoe is one strange lookin' dude.
f.t.

Yeah, he's about right for his roles in, "Platoon" and as a bad guy. Looks like he wears a beard here. Reminds me of Michael Douglas in, "The Ghost and the Darkness."

I'm just leery of movies depicting endangered wildlife and which feature any hunters. Hunting nearly always has a bad image on TV and in movies.

This is the first I've heard of "The Hunter", I really liked the trailer TS and am a Willem Dafoe fan.... I'll have to go see it when it comes to a local movie theatre or else try to find it on DVD. Thanks for the information about this movie.

I hope the film gets US distribution. Some Aussie movies don't, probably most.

I want to see Lara Cox in, "The Dinner Party", where she received rave reviews for her portrayal of a psychotic murderess. But it won't be released here, in part because US audiences don't like movies without American actors. Many can't process the accents, but I think most also just aren't too interested in films not involving Americans.

Russell Crowe, Sam Neill, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, the late Heath Ledger, and a few others are seen as international stars and can be leading actors here. But the rest of the cast usually has to include many Americans, and the Australian actors may have to fake US accents.

The Dinner Party (2010) - Official Trailer - YouTube

Here's the trailer for, "The Dinner Party". CAUTION: contains rough language.

We'll probably never see it here. Pity. Lara Cox has come a long way since playing an Amazon and Finn on, "The Lost World", and she was a good actress even then. Looks as if she may get some award for this role.
