I lived in Northern California for 30 years. This was the area where Bigfoot was spotted and filmed in 1967 by Patterson and Gimlin. There's a Bigfoot museum in Willow Creek, California, too, with various "documentations."
Have I seen it? Nope. But I have taken the pack string into the designated wilderness areas where various people have supposedly seen and taken pictures of the creature. The area there is heavily timbered.
Very heavily timbered. When I've gotten on top of some of the ridges, the view is black with timber as far as one can see.
To illustrate, years ago while we were living there, there was a plane crash in some of that timbered area and it took five years for the crews to bulldoze their way into the wreckage in order to remove it. Yep, no doubt about it, it's thick with timber. Could something be lost in there? Most definitely.
There have been a couple times when I was camped in one of these wilderness areas by myself, primarily the Marble Mountain Wilderness Area, where I've heard banging on the trees late at night. Sounded like someone hitting the trunk of a tree with a baseball bat or a big stick. Didn't know what it was and really didn't give it much thought. I was too tired. Found out later that banging on trees is one way those creatures supposedly communicate with each other.
Apparently there have been a couple sightings there in the Marbles. Like I mentioned, the timber is so thick, you could get lost in there and nobody would find you.
Do I believe in Bigfoot? Hmmmm...I don't think so. I guess the jury is still out on that. All I can say is that if there really
is a Bigfoot, it could get lost in the Marble Mountains for a long time and nobody ever come across it.
I think most of the so-called "sightings" have been de-bunked, but I still enjoy hearing the stories.
