In 1971, the movie "Dirty Harry" resulted in S&W's Model 29 becoming nearly impossible to obtain (even before then it was difficult to find one in most places). Gene West, a gun writer for Gun World, wrote to his friend, Elmer Keith, to request his assistance in obtaining a Model 29 from S&W. Cross 6-26-07 131.JPGCross 6-26-07 132.JPGElmer wrote to Doug Wesson, VP at S&W, and asked him to help Mr. West. In late 1971, a 4-inch Model 29-2 was sent to Mr. West. The inscription on the side plate shows the involvement of Mr. Keith. I purchased this 29-2 from Gene West's son about 26 years ago.

Back in the day, Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times were at the top of the heap, followed by Guns and Gun World, as far as general interest gun magazines. The American Rifleman had some good articles as well. Rifle and Handloading had narrower topics.

Today, I would rate American Handgunner and Guns as the better reads.

Others mileage may vary. :)

Great revolver and thank you for sharing.

Why did the son sell it? Not a gun guy?

Bill "Doc44", still young and beautiful, and will never go out of style... in fact she will be a very courted old lady full of charm and passion. Thanks for sharing this beauty!
