I have been looking into the practicality of a self-defense insurance policy that is oriented towards individuals who legally conceal carry for my wife and myself. Do forum members have any experiences both pro and con with the different companies that offer this sort of insurance that they can share?

I found the threads apparently I had not typed the question properly, thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts I am still researching this matter to see if it makes sense for my wife and I.

The problem I have with insurance is that eventually, the insurance companies begin to dictate terms of use that I would not find appropriate. All too often, they begin to support restrictive legislation when they cannot get customer compliance.

It will end up being like malpractice, auto, dental, and health insurance once they've established a broad customer base they dictate the terms and you'll have to have insurance if you want to carry a firearm.

What comes first? Insurance or legislation.

If God forbid I ever need a SD lawyer, I'm hiring my own, not some lawyer appointed for me.

Considering a legal defense can easily cost $100,000+, I think it's worth considering. If you have those kinds of funds available, then I guess you don't need to worry about it.

Having to use a gun is statistically unlikely, but those of us who carry choose to do so because the consequences of such an unlikely event are high. I view the legal aftermath of a shooting in the same manner.

I've used ACLDN for a number of years, but switched to U.S. Law Shield. I've also had both when I could afford it.

As has been said, this topic has been covered many times and a search will yield lots of information and opinions.

When you've worked your entire life to put aside a nice nest egg and afford a comfortable retirement, would you really consider it financially prudent to put that all at risk because you thought the outlay of a few hundred dollars yearly was too much to pay?

Money well spent whether it's ever used or not, imho. If your pockets are deep enough that the significant cost of a criminal or civil trial wouldn't harm your finances or those of your family, then, by all means, self-insure.

I've had USCCA for 3 years.
Silver member level.
Never plan on using it but you never know.
If I remember correctly it cost less than $155.00 a year.

self=defense insurance

I would invest with CCW safe. I have been with them for several years and in comparison with other companies, they are the best for coverage. You have a choice of coverage depending if you are a LEO or civilian coverage. I carry a million dollar coverage and the cost was minimal. The attorneys are top notch and they are on your case from the moment you notify CCW safe. Also, they send you, via e-mail, current case trials and the outcome of the verdict if the case ends in court. Check out their web site and compare.
