Senate does right: NO expanded checks

Favored by 90% of the people ????

I question any poll reporting high percentages of the sampled agreeing to ANYTHING.

Favored by 90% of those sampled - NOT 90% of the total population. Does not sound like a statistically significant pseudo-random sampling of the total population.

The ONLY poll that I believe would get a REAL 90% agreement is: "Are your taxes to high?"

How can this be? According to the news the expanded background check is favored by 90% of the people????

Not Sure What It's Called......

but there is some Senate procedural rule, that because Harry Reid, majority leader, voted no, he will be allowed to bring it up again at another time. Anyone know it?

They are far from done. They are gonna connect Boston to domestic groups, crack down on gun powder, exploding targets, nails & pressure cookers

And one less supporter --- me...

+1 more! And anyone else I can convince. McCain needs to retire. I'll be sending out one thank you email and another that says "Congratulations on your retirement!"

Excuse my ignorance here but I didn't understand the part about background checks for internet sales anyway. I have bought many guns over the internet (GB, here, and other forums), and if they are from out-of-state, they are always shipped to a local FFL dealer, which then requires a BGC to then transfer to me. Why would an additional BGC for internet sales be necessary?? On the few occasions where they were in-state, a private legal, face to face transaction occured with no BGC. Is it those few in-state transactions that the new law would have applied to?

That "internet sales" thing had me baffled as well, until I heard an explanation of it (after the vote on the failed proposal, I ought to note...) on NPR early this evening. (Why this stuff is not publicly examined and explained early on in the debate seems to me to be a deliberate obfuscation, but maybe it's just ignorance? I'm inclined to presume the worst of the MSM..) Anyhow, "internet sales" is nothing more than the on-line equivalent of offering an item for sale in a newspaper classified ad or "pennysaver" classified ad publication, or the like, sort of a "Craigslist" for firearms, involving FTF (face to face) private sales, which differ not one iota from any other private sale not involving interstate commerce. This was just another attempt to complicate and thus frustrate private sales, by adding another potential possibility of prosecution for an otherwise innocuous act. We need to watch these sleazy politicians every waking minute! "Politician" equals "Professional Prevaricator"

Any word on how the Ga. senators voted?

They were not amongst the Republicans that voted for the bill, so they did good.

McCain's reasoning was infuriating. He didn't think it would help, but felt it was not unconstitutional, so it would do no harm (I'm paraphrasing ... But it was truly lame.)

And the Republican National Committee wonders why I tell them to quit calling my wife and I for donations.

Louisiana-
Senator David Vitter (R) voted against it
Senator Mary Landrieu(D) voted for it - i will again vote against her in the 2014 election

I didn't read this thread in its entirety but did y'all see the chief honcho himself on the tube belly aching about all this? He sure sounded and looked ticked. The people have spoken!

I am waiting for the antis next push. The next multiple homicide involving a gun will bring this argument back around again. And it will happen, no matter how many Boston marathons in between. They will latch on to it like a rabid dog.

It will be interesting to see what happens to gun unfriendly red states, namely, CA, CO, NY and CT and Bloomburg's Mayor anti-gun group. Now, the bill has been shot down, the difference between those states and the rest of the lower 48 is larger than ever. Will Colorado, which has a rich gun culture, repeal their recently passed legislation or be known as, 'one of those states'? Will Bloomburg keep spending millions on ad campaigns and the like?

In the next few days, the media is going to report on every gun homicide in which the gun was purchased in a private sale, gun show or the internet with no background check.

Does it seem like O'Reilly has been moving left? That's how it seems to me in the last 2-3 years.

People have spoken, but he doesn't care one bit. He's like the spoiled brat that didn't get his way. Or someone who finally realized he's not a king.

The anti gunners will definitely be pushing this thing again and again. So we gotta keep on putting pressure on our elected officials to do what is right. And make a serious effort to vote out the ones who don't.

We must stay vigilant. The leftists will attack our Constitution in any way they can. I've already seen a video of a retired BATF official stating that the NRA was against putting tags in gun powder which would have allowed the investigation of the marathon bombers to go faster. Seems it's going pretty well to me. Everyone knows global warming WILL be traced back to the NRA.

If we learn nothing else, we need to learn that the enemies of freedom never give up. They'll regroup, construct another pack of lies, and try again. Of course they'll wait until the next tragedy so they have a fresh pile of bodies to stand on.

I was born and lived in Minnesota for the first 31 years of my life. I didn't move because of politics but I am sure am embarrassed by it. I have disagreements with my family about their political choices so most of the time we don't discuss that topic. My sister told me she voted for Barry because she thought "that Republican is just a rich guy who doesn't understand us middle class people". Uuggghh.

I mean come'on.... Al Franken?.......Jesse Ventura?? Could they elect more comical people for office? Current Governor has his financial fortune in a bank in another state. So embarrassing.
