Serial Number 1341

Picked up a 38 Regulation Police S/N 1341. All numbers matching. The pencil on the stocks in a bit hard to see, but is there.
Didn't have one in the the safe, so I filled the gap. That serial number would place it in the first months after manufacturing started in 1917, I believe.

Is there a patent date stamped on the stocks? I had a 3 digit 38 RP that was without it, indicating a pre June DOB. Serial was in the 6xx range.
Somewhere I read about production starting up sometime in May of 1917 but darned if I can find the source. Perhaps it was on another RP thread here on the forum.

I have a little 38 S&W ammo and my next trip to the range I intend to send it down range.

My 38 RP is from 1921, "Made in USA" on right side of frame.

Between #4-5000 patent date stamp began on the butt of left grip. #4301 is the lowest # I have in my database.

Below #5000, all RPs known are confirmed to have shipped in 1917. And higher #s than those in my database do not have the logo until shipments starting sometime in 1920.

Yours is likely later than that since the change order to add that rollmark was in May 1922 and didn't show up on guns until sometime late 1922 – early 1923 once a new batch of frames was ordered for production, and because of all the existing unstamped frames already in process.

Additional pictures of RP 1341. Although the penciled S/N can be seen faintly on the right stock panel, the camera doesn't pick it up.
