The BEST information on your serial number will come from S&W itself. :)

Call customer service and give them your serial number. They will USUALLY tell you the ship date.

I say this not to avoid giving you quick assistance, but because your TDT serial prefix was used on more than one batch, and model, of pistol.

I have a TDT 4516-3 that was made in 2004. I had a CA DOC 3913, standard version, not TSW, with a TDT prefix that was made in 2001. I had a "standard" production 4566 at one time which IIRC was also a laser etched marked TDT gun. IIRC that pistol was made in 1999.

I also have a TDT 4513TSW, original variant, that was made in 1997.

So you can see that nailing down a production date on a specific S&W serial prefix is not an exact science. Good luck! Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Thanks for the quick response. Is the TDT a "special" prefix then? I'll give them a call and report back, thanks...

Congrats on your 3913 BTW !! Finest single stack 9mm carry gun made. By anyone, IMO.

No, nothing really special about the TDT serial prefix. I does appear to have been used on many LE agency ordered guns.

Many of those guns were models which had previously been out of production, or unavailable for retail purchase to the public. Such as the 4506-1, 4566 and 3913.

Please advise us when you find out the date on your 3913TSW. Regards 18DAI

Phone number is busy, I sent an email so we'll see how how long it takes to get back to me...

You say you have the box. On the box, is there a "spec ord" number? That number can be decoded to determine the manufacture date. The first digit is the year (so you have to at least know the decade) and the next three digits are the day of the year (1 - 365).

Hope your able to get that 3913TSW Drew, the late-version with the rail is on my 'to get' list for sure, as is a 5906TSW.

This is some useful information, thanks for sharing!

I received more intel on the 3913TSW I picked up; it was part of a set of unused CCW training weapons. So they used them purely as real weapons to handle, not shoot. They sold all of these off and have since gone to something else (Shields perhaps?). A few function check rounds we're run through this weapon but essentially it was brand new; talk about a lucky score! Now if they only had a few others left... ;-)
