Serial number help

The members here are extremely helpful to people trying to identify guns.
However, many people do not post the data we need to help you, and we wind up playing 20 Questions for hours.
If you will take just a few minutes to read below and then post the data we need, you will sometimes see guns fully identified in 10 minutes or less! If you post at 4 am Eastern time, you might have to wait 2 or 3 hours for the morning crew to show up, but there's a good chance a west coast night owl will catch it for you.

Welcome to the Forum! Unfortunately, the s/n will not identify the revolver model. Triple-alpha serial numbers were used for many S&W models beginning in 1980. Whichever model is attached to this "AEB3319" s/n was manufactured in 1984. If you want more info, a better description and/or some pictures would certainly help us with an identification.

Looks like a J-frame. Probably a model 60. The model number will be inside the vertical part of the yoke as seen with the cylinder open.
Sure looks like the barrel was replaced on that gun. Maybe just the angle the photo was taken from.

That is a one-of-600 square butt Model 60s with a 2" barrel. John Jovino Company in New York City ordered them. Others near the serial number you showed shipped in May-June of 1984.
Jovino was so pleased with the response to the 2" the company ordered 1,000 with a 3" Heavy Barrel.

I see what you mean. The contours don't seem to match up when looking at the pic in post #4.

I see that. A letter might not work if a local smith replaced the barrel. Serial number does fit the Jovino purchase, though. A picture from above to see if there is an offset would help. I have 4 J's, including a stainless 60 made in December the year before, and none have any kind of offset.
99% sure it's a Frankin-gun (a gun made of non original parts). Try looking inside the crane for a model number:
I suspect it's all original. These can be hard to photograph because of the frame chamfering/contours. Here's an earlier gun that sold on GI and also appears mismatched.

I would like to see a pic of the inner frame near the yoke.
It looks re barreled to me.
