I am today the happy owner of a pre lock 640-1. Serial Number is BUB49XX. Can anyone out there provide an approx. manufacture date? Thanks.

Product code for these was 103690. In this era they typically came with Uncle Mike combat style grips.

I picked up a Model 640-1 just a couple of hours ago at my favorite LGS Serial Number is CAF76XX SCSW says Oct 2003 for mine. It's my first .357 Magnum "J" frame. I shot 25 rounds of my hand loads through it a while ago,(1,000 fps 158 gr plated RN, AA#2 load and a 1,300 fps 140 gr FMJ, Blue Dot load). While recoil is a bit stout it's not unmanageable. I like it

I have a mod640 no lock SN BPM00xx looking for a approximate date it has a big F under the grip also a round sticker that has number 34 on it and some more numbers on the other side under the grip. thanks in advance.

I didn't see the "BPM" prefix in my Standard Catalog of S&W but will guess it'd be in 1993, judging by the similar prefixes which I did find:

I have a 640-1 Pro with serial # starting CZZ. Does anyone have an idea what year approx it was made?
