Lew Horton Distributors has gotten back to me after researching their records and the serial numbers on the 627 "Blood Work" snubby revolvers which they had S&W make a special run in 1998-2000. They are telling me that they initially received 300 of these guns from S&W in late 1998 and early 1999. They were known as the 627-PC. The first serial numbers which were consecutive were MCD0001 to MCD0150. They received 150 of those. The second group were with serial numbers HMA0001 to HMA0150. They received 150 of those. In early 2000 they ordered 125 more from S&W with the model number 627-3. Serial numbers were also consecutive JBS0001 up to JBS0125.

Great information and outstanding research work.

Thanks for the effort, Carl. ;)

So they actually made 300 of the original PC marked ones. then another 125 of the -3 models.
I wonder where the the figure of a little over 300 came from originally for the PC marked ones?
It looks like they were all made for Lew Horton.
Is this information reliable? The reason I ask is that this information does not support what I thought I knew all this time.

Thanks for the information. Good research.

Is this information reliable?

Shouldn't Lew Horton Distributors know better than anyone how many of these revolvers they ordered and how many Smith & Wesson sent to them? If they can't provide "reliable" information on this, no one can.

Steve - I just asked a question. I know in the past I have contacted Lew Horton and was given wrong information about some S&W's in the past. I took it for granted until I found out otherwise. I was even told that at least one of my S&W's was not a Lew Horton, and later found out different.
I was under the impression that Lew Horton did not sell all of the Bloodwork type revolvers. And all of the information I have on the different serial number runs does not match exactly. There also could have been a few extra numbers added to the runs, who knows.
I really hope this information is correct as it will clear up some
different information that has been passed out over the years.
I am not doubting anybody here, just asking.
Carl - This is some very good information.:D Thank you sir.

Understood.

In this case, we may as well assume the information is correct since it's doubtful we'll ever know if it isn't. :D

That is what I am going to do as this is the best information that I have found on this subject so far.:D

Well we all know what happens when we ass-u-me.........

Nice job, Carl. Clearly your investigative skills are still sharp, even in retirement!;) Interesting info, I have to wonder what a new total of 425 original guns vs 302 (per the SCSW) means to the market, if anything.

Also, if they are 150 of them out there, why haven't we seen more of the MCD guns than the one Cocked & Locked has?

Interesting...

Any idea where these fit in? It says the total run will no more than 450 pcs.

Mine is HMA0010. “H” comes before “M”… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! :D

OK Guys, here's little additional info for you to chew over. Talked to Mark today at S&W Customer Service, regarding these serial numbers/prefixes, and particular dates of manufacture. According to S&W Computerized records the first group of 627-PC Blood Works were serial number HMA0001 to HMA0150. All were produced in December 1998. The second group were serial numbers MCD0001 up to MCD0150. The first one of this batch was MCD0001 made in April, 1999. The last one in the group was MCD0150 made in June, 1999. Then another group was made under Prefix JBS. The first one in the group was made in September, 2000, and the last made in October, 2000. This is about as close as we can get. I would imagine if you sent in a letter to S&W, they could give additional info on your particular piece.

Good info Carl. Funny that Lew Horton and S&W are just the opposite on the serial number prefix for the first 150. I'll put my money on S&W having it in the right sequence...but who really knows. Perhaps a factory letter is in order someday.

Meanwhile I'll just keep on shooting it!
