Stopped by a small gun show in Augusta, Ga. today. Nothing much of interest except for one table. An older gentleman had the the complete set of 12 revolvers in the series from the run to Elliet Brothers. All 12 NIB. Asking $8000. All 12 had 1 of 500 on each side plate. Not a bad price considering that on comes out to about $666.00 each. Ahhhh!!!!! Wish I could have brought them home. He WOULD NOT break up the set.

"All 12 had 1 of 500 on each side plate."

Assuming that S&W had completed the full run of guns (they didn't), there would be some 6,000 guns out there marked "1 of 500" on them! It would have been cooler if they had instead marked them "#1 of 500" and "#2 of 500" and "#3 of 500" and so forth.

They did mark them with the number of 500. The one I have is marked 1XX of 500 on the sideplate. I would love to have the complete set with the same number, and $8000.00 sounds like a good price.

Mike,

Was this the set that Jim Motz had at the Aiken Gun Rack before he retired?

No this wasn't Jim's set. This owner lives in Augusta and said he bought them back when they first were offered. They had tie wraps on them and he said they had never been cocked. All were lying in their original boxes on the wrapping paper. Said after owning them all this time he was ready liquidate them for cash.
Buck.......run over to the national guard armory by lake omstead tomorrow and take a look at them. I'd almost bet no one has bought them He tried to give me his card so I could "deal" with him later but I declined.

Robert: If I had the good fortune to acquire this set i would have shot all of them in due time.

As in the famous words of another forum member "They aren't made to look at."

Didn't know that Mrs. Mary had passed. Had heard Jim wasn't in the best of health. Alas.....I couldn't deal with him either. His prices were way to high for me. Been in the store once since the new owners took over. Didn't see anything of interest.
