Mashed potatoes...such a simple side dish, but we all have different ways of making them.

I boil them in lightly salted water, drain and rinse them, then add butter and a little sour cream, salt and pepper, and mash them with an old-fashioned potato masher. I made them for a family dinner the other night, and my girlfriend's 2 year old grandson, who usually hates potatoes, scarfed them up... :)

How do y'all make them?

halved or whole and boiled in lightly salted water with some garlic gloves. Drained then add warmed up milk/butter and mashed with hand masher.

Use Yukon Gold potatoes. Russets are good, but Yukons are phenomenal. Add some whole milk and a good amount of butter and salt. That's it.

When I was dating my ex, we were at Mom and Dad's for dinner. The ex was amazed when she saw Mom making mashed potatoes. "I thought they came out of a box!" I should have figured it out right there. I was destined to be the cook in our soon to be family.

Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water till fork will not stick in them. Drain, dump in large pot add at least 1/2 stick of butter(depends on how many) , pepper and use 1 cup or more of extra heavy whipping cream. Mix throughly with electric mixer.

When the kids were in their teen's, everyday mashed potatoes were a powder from a restaurant food supply. Holiday mashed potatoes were boiled and mashed with a hand mixer. It evolved from 100% pealed to about 25% pealed over the years. Butter, 2% milk, individually salt and pepper to taste.

I have had everyday meals with my kids and notice not one of them eat powdered potatoes from a can anymore!

Bring peeled and quartered potatoes to a boil in salted water.

Drain and return cooked potatoes to the hot pot; then, add room temperature butter and heavy cream before mashing the spuds. Once mashed, stir in pepper and French onion dip.

Plate the tatters and top with more butter and fresh or dried chives to finish.

I save the gravy or au jus to lay the meat choice in. Always good eats!
