Looked at this one last night at Cabelas. They priced it at $725 to me. At that price and then factoring in my mil discount, Cabelas dollars & a $50 coupon it would be under $500. The red dot would immediately go on the garage. Mechanically it felt good. Some surface scratches & very minor pitting on the right side in one spot.

I should have mentioned that intended use is for shooting not collecting but who doesn't want more guns

Do they have the rear sight? A used one usually runs $50+.

$500 OTD isn't the best price ever, but I wouldn't pass up the deal if it's something your looking for. You'll have to search a long time for any N frame in similar condition for less money.

reddog81, funny you just posted that. They do not have the sight & I talked to them about that and they mentioned that brownells sells them for about $50. It came into the store when a guy had it shipped in and then backed out of the deal because of the rear sight. I personally don't find it a big deal putting a new sight on it. My thoughts are...$550 for a good N frame 44 doesn't seem bad with a new rear sight and then I can do what I want with it since it's not 100%

rich - it would be worth it to me for the $500 + $50. But I love nickel!

Current price on the sight is $48.46. I walked away from it last night to think about it more and made a point not to go down there over lunch today. I'm tempted to offer them a lower price and find out how much they have into it. According to the blue book of gun values a 90% 29-3 is about $500 if I remember correctly.

jmace57 I like the nickel also.

The OTD price is better than anything I'm looking at on gun broker right now

The blue book is worthless and means nothing. A 29-3 in good shape for $550 is a heck of a deal.

I wouldn't let the rear sight kill the deal but I was surprised myself when I tried to find one for a model 15 and couldn't find anything in reasonable condition under $50.

It takes the old style sight and they have not been made for over 15 years. I would doubt that you will be able to find one for $50. I am sure you can find one, but it will take some effort.

Still for that money, and you may be able to sell the scope and mount to pay for a rear sight.

How many Ca-bucks would you be spending? Even though you might other wise only use them to buy fudge downstairs they were not accumulated for free.

With those Pachmyrs and its original sight I would expect other local stores to price it $600 to $700 plus tax. I do not know the value of that Red dot. It might be so little that is not worth the effort of selling it. The $50 coupon comes off the after tax price the same as Ca-Bucks.

I've got just over 140 in cabelas bucks. Thanks for the heads up on the different style rear sight. I don't remember looking at what brand the red dot is but I do remember that the mount is secure, I could easily move it.

Bowen's rough country sight has an excellent reputation but like all their products it's expensive. The tang needs to be counter sunk so that the screw head is flush. Where would you find the counter sink or end mill to do the job yourself? It looks like about $180 by the time you get it installed.

If you are going to spend $140 on other Cabela's products before those Ca-Bucks expire then your "under $500" is really under $640 and you did not write if that is before or after tax. $640 plus tax is in the middle of the range I predicted other stores would charge for it with its original sight.

It is easy for Cabela's games to lead you into a gun you were not shopping for and wind up not using much. Guess how I know that. A few bucks more or less seems important tonight but the bigger question is how much you will enjoy owning it.

As others have said, you cant buy the older sight New from Brownells, Midway etc. The new sights are different. This week I posted in the forum WTB section for the sight and picked one up from a member for $60 + shipping. I suggest you also post in WTB section. If you go to Ebay you are going to pay closer to $100

I'm going to pass on it. I can see why the original buyer walked away from the lack of a rear sight also now. The other Cabelas about 90 minutes from me has a 629-3 mountain gun I might look at

The blue book is worthless and means nothing.

This really can't be said often enough. In today's market the only purpose the blue book of gun values serves is local gun stores who want to screw their customers on trade-ins.

I think it can be used to get an idea where to at least start but it's not the end all be all for answers.

On another note, I looked at a new 629-6 Classic today that has my eye
