Sheath clip problem

Hoping this is the correct forum ... a knife is "carry gear".

I have a neat little knife I'd like to carry but the belt clip on the sheath is basically useless. I carried it once and the first time I got out of the truck, the knife clattered to the ground.

Pics below show that it's riveted in and the anemic curve of the clip. Taking the sheath apart is above my pay grade.

I've thought of wrapping something around the clip and using it as a belt loop. I could probably dream up something that wouldn't look too awful.

ETA: Of course, I forgot the pictures ...

Is there another option? I'll appreciate any feedback.

It's an odd little thing that might be better carried horizontally. I'll try inside the pocket. A new sheath would probably have to be scratch built.

I never heard of a "dangler". Some variation on that kind of thing might be the low-tech ticket.

Danglers mostly came from those folks in Scandinavia.
They work best for smaller knives, IMO.
You can buy them on Amazon and elsewhere.
Po Boy anybody? You can just put a Carabiner on your clip, or add a key ring if you want to hook to belt.
Here’s one on a small Bark River.
I hook it on belt loop.

Secure the bottom of the clip and turn it into a metal belt loop.

If you want to make it permanent, get some JB Weld and glue the open end of the clip together.

If you want to be able to undo it, stitch the clip down. Get a large heavy sewing needle, some carpet thread and a pair of pliers. Push the threaded needed in at the seam on the side, inline with the oval clip cut-out on the back. When you get to the cut-out, loop the double layer of thread over the clip and between the layers of leather on the other side. Insert the needed back through the layers of leather on the opposite side, but don’t run the needle through the same hole. I’d probably make about 4 passes, then tie the ends off on the same side. It won’t won’t be visible from the front and should do the trick.

Man, what great ideas and solutions. I've seen plenty of times someone posts a problem I think is unsolvable and collected wisdom here wrestles it to the ground, hogties it and stands on it's neck.

In this picture, it looks like there's a metal loop recessed in the leather. I can't really tell how big the loop is or the size of the opening but I wonder if a nylon wire tie can be looped through that metal loop and wrapped around the clip to hold it shut.


The real permanent answer, as AlHunt mentioned is to fashion a new sheath or look into having the existing sheath modified by removing the factory stitching, pulling the back with the belt clip off and stitching on a new hunk of leather with a proper belt loop. Ain't gonna fall offa your belt that way.

The thing at the very top of the pic is looking straight on into the end of a leather loop with a snap on the end. Sort of a thumbreak.

Playing with it in my pocket today (for which it's too big), I've reached the conclusion that the clip is on the wrong side entirely. Hard to explain without writing a novel but because of the way you want to hold it, the blade should be 180 degrees from the way it hangs. Inside the belt but out of the pocket gets it oriented right but them I'm back to the clip not holding.

I believe the short term answer is to JB Weld the clip closed and use it as a belt loop, like S&W Chad suggests.
