Sheriff In County Near Here Run Over And Killed While Trying To Stop Fleeing Felons.

It happened yesterday afternoon. Sheriff Garry Welford of George County Mississippi was run over and killed by fleeing felons as he was throwing stop sticks across the road. He was not in the road and the driver ran off the road and struck him at a very high rate of speed. The fleeing vehicle was damaged enough that the occupants abandoned it and fled into nearby woods. We sent five of our deputies over to help in the manhunt. They were captured around 6:00 a.m. this morning.
