My primary EDC is my trusty Shield 9 1.0. Due to age and retina issues I am finding it harder to pick up the front sight and three dot sights are starting to be a little "busy" for my eyes.

I am considering going to something such as XS Big Dots or Ameriglo CAP sights. I am open to suggestions from those of you that have been in the same situation. A pistol with an optic is probably in my future but is not an option at this time. Thanks for any help from the fine folks on this forum. Photos of your setup would be helpful as well.

I have a 1.0 Shield P.C. model. It has the fiber optic sights and I find them very easy to use. Of course, they are best in well lit situations.
I believe Hi-Vis and Trijicon still have fiber optic and night sight sets available. I may switch to XS myself before too long. My eyes aren't what they used to be.
The 1.0 is still a great carry choice. I trust mine.

Have TruGlo Tritium Pro on my 1.0 Shield and Bodyguard. My Hellcat OSP came with XS or Night Fision sights (not sure which as both are very similar). Big dot tritium night sight on the front surrounded by bright yellow photo luminescent ring. Rear is a U notch highlighted by white non-tritium paint where all you have to do is drop the front dot in the U bucket. I also have aging eyes and all these sight systems work well for me. Take a look at their websites to find what's best for your eyes. Good luck on your search!

I'll be 65 in a month. I have TruGlo TFX Pro sights on my Gen 1 Shield, and my 2.0 Compact. My aging eyes really like them!

Another option (& @ $84) would be the LaserMax Centerfire Red Laser for the 1.0.

One should be able to pick that up in most (many?) conditions, especially at night. Doesn't preclude other sight options.

Cheers!

XS Big Dot is your best bet for EDC use.

Precision accuracy beyond 15 yards will suffer, but that's not really a problem for an EDC gun like a Shield.

Long term solution: Sell the Shield and buy a gun factory set up for an optic.

Having spent considerable time behind XS sights and MRDS optics, the optics are a better all 'round solution for both close up and distance, but the XS will do the job for EDC.

Which one can you see the best?

Is this a trick question? Thanks for sharing. For me the F/O stands out. Problem solved. For me at least:)

For those of you that changed them, we're they a bear to drift out? Thanks

Yes, the Shield sights are tight. I used a sight press to install. You can break Tritium sights drifting them with a punch.

I've put Trijicon HD's on all my Shields. I've always used the yellow. Stands out big time. I've had the XS but don't care much for the height of the sights. Just my preference.

M&P Sights are always SUPER TIGHT Front & Rear
They are NOT fit with a stone or file just pressed into the slots & Loctite on the threaded screw at the rear
My Local Gun Shop lets me use their sight pusher at the shop

Thanks for the replies. I've heard that they can be difficult, like SA are. Change out a few other brands and they were snug but did move eventually. I have an early shield 1.0. Might try budging the front sight before committing to buying first.
