O.K. after I got off work today at about 2:30 p.m. I went to Academy Sports and bought 100 rounds of ammunition Remington 180 grain FMJ and a cheap hip holster, since my regular holster does not work with the thin Shield!

I went to the range and there was hardly anyone there do I went to my favorite lane and set up, mind you I did not have a range bag just a holstered gun and a plastic bag from Academy with my Uplula a 100 round box of ammo, my ear muffs and my extra magazine that came with the gun!

I loaded up 7 rounds into the extended magazine and 6 into the other flat based magazine. Then I proceeded to fire these two magazines.

Alright except for on the first shot I got a failure to extract which jammed up the weapon, I cleared the gun and kept firing losing one live round to the range floor (it's an indoor range)!

Out of the first six shots I was kinda left of POI and not in the red at all but very close (trigger control, grip) so on the second magazine I took my time and started hitting the red but not as consistent so all were still in the 9 ring!

I ended the session with no more failures and will really clean the weapon real good instead of the casual cleaning I gave it last night.

Out of 50 rounds I put 20 in the red, most to the left one dead center of the X one above and one below and like I said most the rest in the nine ring with a close pattern, so I just need to get more used to the weapon!

As far as recoil I am used to shooting 40's since I have 3 of them (now) it is not really that bad and tomorrow I will shoot one handed both left and right handed to see how it works out.

The snappiness or muzzle flip can be controlled after you get used to the weapon and you can get back on target quick enough. I love my new little M&P Shield I'm gonna sleep with it under my pillow tonight in its pocket holster that I did use for my Glock26 (my only non Smith and Wesson) which is in the time out gun vault!

Sounds like a good range outing. And yes, im sure more time with the new family member, will improve your poi. Still waiting for my new shield.

Excellent report. I am not a huge fan of .40 cal but the Shield shoots nicely. Its accurate as hell for me..

The fishing is great Houdini! I do a lot of bass fishing, although we have great saltwater fishing in the area.
