For those that have a shield in 40 cal, do you have the ability to do a true double tap?

Or..... Is the recoil too much for extremely fast followups?

Much is made of recoil, but I for one cannot imagine that ANY .40 recoils too much for a "controlled pair," as Jeff Cooper referred to the clumsily named "double tap."

Recoil control comes from knowledge, not strength, as my daughter proved at the age of twelve years with the .45.

Why don't you rent one and find out first hand. "True double tap" is a nebulous label without much meaning. I don't have any trouble with rapid fire using my Shield 40.

I double tapped my 40 Shield several times today. In fact at 7 yards I was able to put 7 rounds in a 4 inch group in less than 4 seconds. That is not unusual, because I put 16 rounds of 10mm from a G20sf In a 6 inch group in 9.4 seconds. Not spectacular but I am sure there are many that could do better than that.
For me the recoil from the Shield is more manageable than a G27, 2 factors are the thinner grip and Talon Grips

I have a 45c i do well with, but have had 40s in the past that recoiled too much for a quick 2nd accurate shot

In regards to renting a shield..... That sounds nice..... But i shoot at a few ranges and I NEVER have seen a Shield for rent or anyother new " gotta have" pistol for that matter......

A 3 year old pistol....Everyone has one for rent...... No problem..... A new shield...... Not so much

You'll get faster splits with the 9mm, but the Shield 40 is fairly manageable for someone that shoots with proper technique. And yes, I have a Shield 40.

Plus, with 40s&w ammo you don't need as many hits on your target...and yes I also have a 40 Shield.

I have a Shield .40 and have 500+ rounds through it. From the beginning I thought the recoil would be far worse then it was. It does have more "bite" then my Glock 19 and, at first, getting back on target quickly took some practice. I train primarily for home and self defense. I can get 4&1/2 to 5in groupings at 12 feet in about 5-6 seconds using the 7rnd mag. Not great, but much better then when I started. Honestly, I have not really even tried the "double tap" with this firearm yet as I prefer to shoot for center mass. If your goal is to achieve a double tap with the Shield .40, I would say the recoil is manageable enough with some practice.

For those who absolutely must fire these pistols fast, I suppose Mag-Na-Port might be the answer.

I can get 4 rounds off in less than 2 seconds, just don't ask me where the shots went! Really though, 2 body and one head ( as we were trained to do) in 3 seconds and 5 inches will get the job done. I think one shot center mass will give you time for an aimed 2nd shot with a 40, if it is necessary. Unless you are LEO, SWAT or spec ops I don't think speed is as necessary as awareness and planning. JMHO

Shield 40 Double tap

I own the Shield 40. Double tap with the Shield is not a problem as long as you are using decent ammo. When I first bought the gun I used some **** ammo the range sold and I had ejection and feed problems. Once I switched to other manufacturers rounds those problems went away. And yes I have double tapped several times. No problem!!
