Shield 45 AWFUL GRIPS

My second time at the range with my new Shield 45, First time I only fired abot 15 rounds (all I had in my carryall).\
This time I had 100 rounds with me, well, after about 25 rounds I began to feel the back of the grip in my hand....looking at it the grips on the 45 are VERY rough...almost like 60 grit sandpaper.
Awful design, now what...Talon Grips over it....NOT GOOD

IMHO: The grips on the Shield 45 are great in my hands. The OP must have soft and supple surgeons hands? HIHI
Personally, unless you are going to keep your Shield 45 a lifetime, I would not sand the grip as it will detract re-sale value should you want to sell it later on (unless of course someone likes it sanded down).

I agree that the texture is a bit aggressive. S&W could have met in the middle somewhere between where it is now and the grip on the 9 and .40

Talon Grips

I added a Talon Grips, rubberized texture, to my Shield .45 and it works great. Hopefully this is helpful, best of luck.

Goes to show that we are all different! I really like the grips on my Shield .45. Now I wouldn't want to hold it in my arm pit all day long, especially if it was moving around. But it sure stays in place nicely in my hands as I fire it. I shot my 9MM Shield the other day after it had been resting in my safe since I got the .45. I remembered that I thought it had a pretty good grip surface but after having fired the .45 for sometime, the 9MM felt positively slick! I may have to put some grip tape on it!!

I love the grip, but did notice it rubs a bit against my skin when I carry IWB. So I took some very fine sandpaper and gently rubbed to take down some of the aggressive texture. Its perfect now for me.

I suspect that the OP could do the same, just take it slow until you have a texture that you like. You can always take more off- you can't put the texture back one once its sanded off.

I also like the grip on my 45 Shield just the way it is. I wish my 9mm Shield was just like it! daka , I would just sand the grips smoother to your liking.

The texture grip is one of the main reasons I bought one, it locks the gun in your hand.

It's nothing compared to the front strap checkering on a TRP. Even with that cheese grater, you get use to it.

That's a really good comparison. What I like are the serrations on the slide to give you a good grip to slingshot that are like knives. Rack the slide and you have three parallel cuts on your thumb and finger each.

I have the Hogue Beavertail Grip on my 40 Shield and it's great. You might want to look into this for the 45 Shield also.

I think my Shield .45 grips are great. I've shot up to 250 rounds in a range session with no problems. However, I recognize that not everyone will like their aggressive texture. Therefore, I recommend Talon rubberized grips. I have them on my Shield 9, and they are an excellent combination of grippiness and comfort. They are easy to put on, they don't cost very much, and they wear well.

Just "dust" off the bothersome spots with some 400 grit sandpaper. Made mine perfect.

Yep. Count me in with the sanders. I took off as much as I dared and still put Talon-type grip tape panels on it. Now I go "Ahhhhh" when I shoot it.
