If they did manage to make a 1.5 magazine to fit a 45 it would hold at best 6 rounds. Interesting question though and they might even be working on it.

I am not saying it would not be possible but that it might not be probable but who knows?

" If and when Smith & Wesson makes a 'Shield 45' I will buy it."

I will run it side by side with my PM45 and keep the winner.

Maybe Karma the loser here on the forum

My CS45, which is quite a bit heavier, would be darned unpleasant without grips that resemble the puffy rubber ball on a pogo stick....

I expect that a .45 Shield wouldn't be any better.

OTOH, the CS45 is tolerable. It's based on the Model 39 "basic" design with the backwards safety, and some models have a decocker instead of the safety function at all, and thinner grips are available, too. Think "PPK/S that's an inch thick"....

Other than commonality with the M39-ish semi's, I don't know why I bought it :D.... (There's a CS9 that's got to be a decent carry piece for it's day - about 10 years ago, and there was a CS40, but apparently it dropped off the radar a long time ago.)

(AFAIK, the CS9 and CS45 may still be available new. They were when I bought that CS45, but it was used. Full of mummified grease and dust bunnies big enough to raise, but it cleaned up fairly well, and was an "airline travel" gun for me for a while. That's one you wouldn't mind an insurance check for, especially at the end of a trip....)

Dunno if I'd want the .45 Shield, but I may swap that CS45 for a .40 version eventually.

Regards,

I think there would be more cons than pros with a 45 Shield.
The size and handling chacteristics with the 9mm and the.40, seem to work out pretty well, but I see a 45 version as too much of a good thing, and there is no way to keep the overall size as compact as the 9 and 40.
I don't know why anyone would even want one for what you'd give up,but that's just me.

ETA:What I'd really like to see is a nice .22 LR Shield for same size gun training on the cheap, and it would be a nice pest gun too.

To me the 40 cal. seems close to the 45 as far as recoil goes. I think it it doable.

It's doable, and I'm sure there are plans for one in the future. My problem with it would be the reduction in capacity with the larger round while still being in keeping with a compact slim auto.It would have to be wider.
I don't put as much premium on capacity in a pistol as most people, but I sure wouldn't want to go less than what the .40 Shield carries for a somewhat larger round, that may not even perform as well from the already short barrel.
If a .45 version was much larger than what the current Shields are then it would be something else all together.
Then again, today's engineering is marvelous, but you can only cram so many good gifts into a small box.:)
I'm a 9mm user, and for me the current Shields are perfect for their intended market use.

I asked someone I know at the company about the possibility of a Shield 45. The guy said he had no inside knowledge of such a potential caliber version for that model line, but I probably shouldn't hold my breath.

The next caliber out for the shield will be a cut down 500 S&W it will hold 4 rounds with 1 in the chamber making it a 5 shot.I got this from a source inside S&W and saw a video of the proto type on you tube!!!

Yes, this will sell millions! :D

Didn't work, unable to rack the slide. The 44Mag version will come with a mini jack to put the first round into battery; and it will come with with a coupon book for your local emergency room.

Depends how well the XDs does. If those get the the stellar reviews the Shield 9mm is getting, I'm sure S&W will figure out a way to throw their hat in the ring!

Agreed, the question is, how long will it take?

No, you misread that. It will be a single shot, because after you fire it, you'll never be able to hold another handgun as long as you live! Can you imagine??
