Shield .45

Supposed to start shipping in June.

Pleased about the improved and expanded grip texture. Also happy to be rid of a sliding sleeve on the extended magazine.

Less than thrilled about the front "serrations". Look wonky, almost as if someone made a machining error and decided to fly with it.

It will be interesting to see how the triggers come out on this new Shield.

Well, got M&P .45s in Compact, Mid and Full Size. Might as well get one of these to go with them...

No upgraded sights, such as those of the PC shield. This is a bummer, because we all know when the sales drop on this. They will release a newer one with upgraded sights.

And of course, u cant barrel swap the .45. Like those of us who have the .40 and swap to the 9mm barrel.

I don't consider the PC Shields a upgrade for a carry gun, I don't want fiber optic sights or porting in a carry gun, period. I would be swapping out the stock three dot setup anyway once I get the gun broken in, make sure it's reliable with my carry ammo and I can shoot well with it. Everyone else's mileage may vary, but I don't see fiber optic sights very well without light. "Isn't that kinda how they are supposed to work? [emoji12]" Porting may be somewhat of a benefit, but when you combine the two in a single stack carry gun, I personally think S&W missed the mark on that one.

Not really the case here... It's called progression... You keep singing this theme about the Shield, like S&W is doing something dastardly.. you put out the 1st model and build on it from there..

If the .45 would have been available when I bought my Shield 9, I probably would have gone that way.

For now, I will stick with the 9mm and my .45 XDm 3.8 Compact.

Glad to see another choice for consumers.

Me...well there comes a time when I should stop buying guns... I have a Shield 9mm; for the sub compact .45 and I have XDS 3.3" and a Colt Defender. The Shield .45 came too late for me. But for others, good for them...

Shield .45 comes many years too late. Had they released this back when thhis topic was started, years ago. They would have had a much greater profit off of it. To me this is another, boost the sales of the shield (again). Just as they did with the NS version of the original shield and then the PC version of the shield. S&W is out of ideas (for the moment). So they are going back and trying to make what consumers wanted years ago.

Glock did the same thing with the Glock 43. Regardless, S&W has sold over 1,000,000 Shields. I think they know what they are doing. I'll bet the Shield 45 was also years in the making. Would you prefer they did a rush job and put out a low quality product or take their time and do it right?

I personally do not think they are late... with that being said I jumped on the XDS train when they first released and after the whole recall debacle and Springfield misleading their customers telling all XDS owners to send their guns in and we will fix them when they did not even have a fix for the problem. I sold my XDS shortly after that and went back to primarily shooting and carrying 9mm guns. Ever sense I got rid of my XDS I have been wanting another single stack polymer striker fired 45ACP carry gun. I hope this is the ticket, if it isn't then the search will continue. But if their 45ACP Shield is anything like the 9mm/40S&W counterpart I think it will be a great addition to my rotation.
