I'm wondering if anyone has found a cheap and convenient way to glue or otherwise hold the silly "ring" on the 8 round mag for a shield?

The ring sliding up and down bothers me, and changing mags quickly it can make it hard to grab and could offer some added resistance in a panic mag change that could cause a failure to feed.

Why the heck did S&W make this ring for anyhow?

I was wondering if something like clear nail polish or a dab of clear silicon caulk would due the trick, and not cause any corrosion or eat the plastic away?

when i used an Xgrip adapter on full size mags (for my compact) i'd put a wrap or two of electrical tape underneath to keep the piece from sliding up the mag. Perhaps something like that would work on the Shield mag part mentioned

Talon makes a great product that serves the same purpose as electrical tape wrap, and looks good. I recall they are just a couple bucks.

I don't think the polymer used would glue or epoxy well. The tape or grip solution would be the better.

I have found several things that work, but none of them work for long when shooting IDPA in 100 deg weather. The 8 rounder is just slow a awkward to change mags quickly.
However, IDPA solved the problem for me with their new BUG division rules, limiting the Shield to 6 rounds in the magazine. I just use the 7 round magazines loaded with 6 for IDPA/BUG and get the quick smooth reloads I need.
I also carry the 7 rounders loaded with 7 for CHL now and just quit using the 8s altogether.

i pretty much carry mine with the 8 rd mag in the gun and a seven round mag with Pierce pinky mag plate as a spare.....Mike

Super glue works great. Been using it for two years with no problems. When I need to take the mag apart I just tap on the edge between the base plate and the filler. Comes loose without a problem.

I use some black silicone adhesive/sealant. I apply it sparingly along each side with a small dab on the front and rear to the bottom side of the spacer. Then press it down firmly and carefully wipe off any excess. It seems to work best if some of the stuff makes contact with the metal of the magazine. I have had one or two come loose again after a while but it's a simple matter to apply the silicone sealant again. Even if you apply more of it along the sides than just a small bit, you can remove the spacer if necessary by using a thin sharp exacto blade carefully to separate the spacer along the seams. The stuff will clean up so you can reapply it again if wished. I've had pretty good luck with this stuff.
