Shield 9 EZ - its not the gun

I recently purchased a Shield 9mm EZ Performance Center to add to my collection. My arthritis makes it very difficult to rack several of them. The EZ is just that EZ. But it shooting low. I put around 50 rounds through it all going low. Had a buddy try it, he had the same result. Any ideas?

About all you can do is file the front sight down or install a shorter one. My wife's standard model came dead on the money.

I have a 9EZ also and first range trip was also shooting low. Then I remembered reading that most handguns now are sighted at the factory for a "combat" sight picture. Tried that my second range trip and problem solved.

A combat sight picture is where the front sight covers where you want the bullet to go.

The "combat" sight picture is a myth. No factory sights their guns this way.

They say it's when you use the dots to get the sight picture rather than the tops of the sights. This is wrong, especially with the M&P because the dots cannot be lined up. They are not precision placed so, they can't be reliably aligned to get a proper sight picture.

When people say the combat sight picture fixed their shooting low, it's usually because they are shooting low and the combat sight picture causes them to hold high which just means their aiming high. Of course that would bring the POI up.

When shot from a rest, all the M&P guns will hit POA if the tops of the sights are aligned properly.

I don't know about other M&P pistols but my 9EZ the 3 dots align perfectly when the tops of the sights are aligned.

I believe you, but I still want to see a picture. Here's what my M&P looks like:

You see, because all the dots are the same actual size, the front sight dot will appear smaller. This makes it impossible to line up the dots.

I really like my EZ 9mm and EZ380, but I would love to be able to get past that heavy break in the trigger. I'm spoiled by my M41 and Sig P210 Target and I don't want a EDC with a hair trigger, but I would love to smooth that trigger out just a little.

And before anyone suggests Apex, I live in Mass, so there can be no parts but OEM in the gun.

Do you have a dremel? I used this for my M&Pc 1.0 so the details will be different for your gun.

But there are a lot of youtube videos if you google 'diy trigger job for M&P'. Some parts it's nice to start w/ 400-600 sand paper. I have a roll of double side tape and some small pieces of flat wood. Stick the sand paper on and use it like a file. Then polish w/ the dremel and compound. You want the small contact areas to all look like they are chromed. Just be careful to not change any angles or round off corners.

After I had a few people shoot my wifes gun and get a 6" low result we sent it to S&W and they fixed it. Didn't say what they did, but it was dead on after that.

Beretta disagrees.

1. Sight picture: Ensure that your front and rear sights are aligned to create the proper sight picture. Point of aim and point of impact should be relatively consistent, taking into consideration the barrel length of the firearm and distance from the target. Note: all Beretta pistols use a "combat sight picture." Simply put, the front sight post/dot physically covers the desired point of impact.

Sig also disagrees:

All SIG SAUER production duty/combat pistols are set up to use a "combat" sight picture. This is where the front sight completely covers the bullseye of the target.

I've now actually put about 1,000 rounds through the EZ 9 and the trigger has broken in quite nicely. It breaks at 4.5 lbs and that's fine for me. Keeping everything in the gun lubed with Gunzilla has helped as well.

I have had my 9mm EZ a little over a year. I have about 300 rounds through it. With no malfunctions. I made it my concealed carry gun. I have always aimed a little high when I have a pistol that has shot low. That's a quick easy fix. You will learn to make it a habit with a gun that needs it

Having owned a regular 9mm shield with it's heavy recoil spring,and 10 lb trigger, it's nice to know that when I'm old and arthritis takes over, I can still defend myself with the EZ pistols.

This is not true for the 9MM EZ, the gun shoots low. Lower than the dots in fact. S&W won't correct it, don't even make sights in different heights. I ordered a new rear sight gonna try to build it up. Already sent gun back and they didn't do anything. I thought maybe they would replace the slide or at least do something but no.
THIS IS THE LAST NEW S&W I'LL BUY. tHE LAST 7 NEW S&WS I'VE PURCHASED HAVE /HAD SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM.
They all fired when the trigger was pulled with the exception of the .22 jamming once in awhile. ll have at least 1 defect of some kind.

Ok, I'm curious; what's with the Don't press the grip safety when taking down or reassembling??

The slide will not go back on all the way..if the grip safety is depressed.. No problem once you get use to keeping your hands off it.. I like my 9mm EZ alot.. especially with my almost 80 YO hands...don't get old folks..

I love my 9mm EZ. I've put over 3000 rounds in it since I got it last July. I'm 71, have rheumatoid arthritis and have been determined to master a 9mm. So I joined an indoor range, go at least once a week, and am finally having good success putting bullets where I want them to go.

Picture on right is with painted front sight and I painted the back
sight dots with flat black paint, same result as center picture.
Smith miss drilled front dot on my 9mm EZ.
I will at some point replace with night sights, then the three dot
aligned sight picture will fix the shooting low. JMO

You might try different ammo with different weight bullets.
All my 9mm is 124gr, regular and +P velocity.
