The spring in my 7rd mag failed last week when I removed it it had a split in the wire that allowed the smaller coils to fold down into the larger bottom coil, I called smith and wesson and they are sending a new spring.

Today my wife took out her Shield to try out some Critical Defense 100gr Breast Cancer Awareness Ammo to make sure it would cycle the slide (it did) but after 5 shots nothing so removed the 7rd mag and there were 2 rounds still down in the mag one round shy of the top.

I removed the baseplate and the spring on her 7rd mag was also bent down into the bottom portion of the spring but could see no split so called S&W again about her mag.

Now I'm worried that the 7Rd mag spring will fail should me or her need to defend ourselves.

I am wondering if anyone else has had their spring fail on the 7rd mag as well, my 7rd mag had been reloaded and used twice before, on my wifes this was the first time being used.

I believe this is the first of this type of failure I can recall hearing about on this forum. Other people have had mag spring issues, but basically that was the spring folding in on itself.

Do you know when your gun (and mags) were manufactured. Seems there was a period of time that bad mag springs came from.

My shield was manufactered in Feb 2016 my wife's Mar 2016,
I have no idea when the mags were since they are made seperately than the guns.
