Shield 9mm ejection?

I put the first 100 rounds through my Shield today . Ammunition was WWB 115gr.
Ejection was weak and random. Some brass would go over the front, some over the left and every so often brass would eject to the right. It all was just barely clearing the gun.
The first twenty or so rounds saw a bunch of polymer coming out of the gun also. It was polymer, not gunpowder,
I took it apart tonight. Ejector is in the gun tight and all of the wear looked pretty even. No cracks in the frame or anything. Maybe the polymer was just trash that wasn't cleaned out good at the factory.
Anyway, has this pattern of ejection been the norm for everyone else and their Shields?

No problems with brass ejection with over 2000 rounds. Have not used WWB ammo.

WWB 9mm has a reputation for not having uniformity in its loads, it's OAL and the 'shoulders' on the case rims (some squared off, while others are rounded). I stopped using WWB a few years back.

Try another brand, such as Federal Champion (WalMart), or even UMC and see if you have the same ejection problems.

The 100 round Federal Value Pack is even less expensive than the 100 round WWB Value Pack.

I.ve given up on the WWB and switched to Freedom Ammunition for my 9, and Federal 180gr for both of my .40's.

Did you read the manual first and clean the weapon before you shot it like it says ? Sounds like limp wristing and grip "could" be your problem.

I know WWB does not have the best reputation. However, it has never given me problems in any of my other pistols. Including my other M&Ps. This box was what was left in the pile I had that day.

Limp wristing was not an issue and had not been for anything else during my time on the range with two other pistols that day.

I did not clean it first or read the manual first either. I treat my handguns kind of like lawnmowers. I load them, shoot them and hit them with some oil when they get a little sluggish. Actual cleaning is an annual event.

I had already planned on running some more/different ammunition through it in a few days and see what it does then.

I asked here looking to see if other Shield owners had similar experiences. I guess not.

Shot my brand new Shield 9mm today with no ejection issues whatsoever. Shot 100 total of both Hornady 135 gr Critical Duty and 124 gr cheap Blazer target ammo. The Shield ripped through both flawlessly. It was a good day at the range!

I guess I never pay much attention where my fired brass it going as long as it is ejecting somewhere to let the next round chamber. My shield works all the time, every time with no problems in 300 rounds.

While many Full-Size and Compact pistols do fine with WWB, many Subcompacts don't seem to. I'm not an engineer, so I don't know why (other than the visual inconsistencies I mentioned earlier... I just know that many Subcompact owners seem to have problems with WWB and not with other brands. [Shrug]

Also an inherent issue with people transitioning from Full-Sized and Compact shooters when they switch to a 3" barreled, lightweight Subcompact. With the Shield weighing 19oz, it shouldn't be as much as an issue as the 13oz Subcompacts out there, but just because one has no LW issues with other larger pistols, it's not something that can be toosed aside without 1st ruling it out (but I think it's more amm related than LW)

If that's how you treat them, then you really can't blame FTE issues on a Subcompact pistol. You do put oil in your lawnmower, don't you?

With a good clean & lube, along with other ammo, you'll most likely find it works great. Heck... With a good clean/lube, it might even work with WWB.

Correct. 0 issues in about 1000 now, using WalMart Federal.

No issues with mine. Ammunition mostly Winchester white box 147 gr TMJ, a couple hundred Winchester frangible, and some 147 gr JHP.

Zero issues.

I have intentionally limp wrist my Shield 9mm and I can not get her to fail. My grip was so loose I thought the gun would fly out of my hand.

I know one thing after 500 flawless rounds my Shield is my all season CCW.

After owning and trading a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano there is no way I would buy another CCW after owning the Shield 9mm.

I'm using Federal 115 grain, 600 hundred rounds with no issues with my Shield.

Same here; Blazer, WWB, Feds and Gold Dots with no problem. Cleaned, lubed, and still rockin. I never get tired of reading how many LEO's and everyone else thoroughly enjoy the Shield. It is a hit.

After about 50 rounds, my new Shield 9mm had a few FTE's with UMC ammo. The gun was cleaned before taking it the range. I will try it again next time, as I could have been limp wristing it, but my XD9 has NEVER failed me over 1000+ rounds.

Update: Took it to the range again today, and put about 75 trouble free rounds through it. I did not clean it. I am leaning toward limp wristing as the explanation for the earlier FTE's, as the little fella kicks pretty hard.

A couple of thoughts.
1. If you did not clean it first you should have.

2. It is a new gun and will need a couple of hundred rounds to break it in, or cycle the slide by hand for a few minutes. Your gun is probably now briken in properly.

3. I would have shot a heavier round during the break-in. 115gr. will work fine, but 124gr. will work a lot better with a new gun.

The gun was stripped and cleaned prior to the first use. It was an oily mess. I am going to go shoot it again today.

Mine looked fine and was well lubed from the factory. I checked it over very carefully, but no I didn't clean it before firing 100 Blazer Brass 115gr. Ir ran fine and I found nothing out of the ordinary cleaning it afterwards. It has about 250 rounds so far with no failures. As someone said earlier, as long as the brass clears the pistol and another round loads I'm fine.. Cheers.. Ron

Shield 9mm Many FTE's after 300 rounds.

My shield 9mm shot fine for the first 300 rounds. Started to FTE after that. I clean it after each range session of about 100 rounds or so. I was cleaning it after all of the fte's last week and noticed that the extractor claw moves slightly. Is that normal? I was using a nylon brush to clean it and it moved out. I pushed back with my finger. Doesn't see right. Any help would be appreciated....
