Shield 9mm Feeding Problem

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I would like to ask for some help on a problem that I discovered. I have a new Shield 9mm and before firing it I have installed an Apex Tactical Shield Carry Kit. Everything went fine with the installation, however when I made an attempt to fire a few rounds, it would fire fine..eject the fired round...but would not feed a new round into the chamber. I then had to manually rack another round in the chamber and would again do the same thing each time. It seemed as if the slide was not traveling back far enough to pick-up the new round from the magazine. Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the solution?

A description of the ammunition you are using might be helpful.

I have run Apex kits in three different 9mm Shields, including my current EDC, with no problems what so ever.

By your description, the next round is still in the magazine and the chamber is empty?

And as Oldlawman asked, what ammo is it? Did you try different ammo? Did it happen with the other mag?

Sorry, I used Remington 115 GR MC. I used only 1 mag. and did not try a different mag or ammo. I will try that when this nasty weather (snow & ice) improves a little.

That is correct, it fires and ejects the empty casing, the slide back into place but does not pick-up the next round from the mag.

Is it difficult to rack the slide when you manually chamber a round, or lock the slide back?

Were those factory rounds or reloads. I had this problem with a Beretta and found my reloads were a little too weak. Also, my M&P22 did this until it was well broken in. Heavier loads worked better. It really sounds like a slide travel problem. Also, have you checked the recoil spring to make sure it is in the proper position? Hope this works for you. The shield is a great little gun.

As others have suggested, it sounds like underpowered ammo.

The Shield is notoriously tight when new. Mine was a bear to rack by hand. I shot 100 rounds of 124gr FMJ (Blazer Brass and Freedom Munitions) to break it in. It's been fine ever since.
