I just started using my new Shield 9mm. In the first 100 rds I had 4 FTEs (failure to eject) where the spent shell casing jammed in the ejection port. Ammo was decent quality - 50 Magtech & 50 Lawman 115 gr. Any one have advice on this? is it a break-in issue, or a defective gun?

Thanks!

It could be a break in issue. It could also be ammo related. I took my new Shield out last week and had 1 FTE, 1 FTF, and the slide failed to lock back twice. After those few issues it ran fine. With all the hype that I had read online, I was ready for the holy grail of carry pistols. I even sold my beloved G26 Gen 4 that has never had one issue to get it. I was not to impressed and decided to carry my 3913 instead and use the Shield as a backup to it. As with anything man made, there can be issues. I would just say shoot it some more with different ammo. If they issues go away, chalk it up to a new gun that just needed to be broken in. If you continue to have issues, send it back. S&W will take care of it or you.

Thank you for your service. I have 22 years on active duty right now and look forward to retirement in 18 months.

Thanks for your advice - can you claify one thing?

Thanks. One question. You wrote:

"If you continue to have issues, send it back. S&W will take care of it or you."

Did you mean to say: "S&W will take care of it FOR you" or does the more sinister wording stand?

I meant for you. I guess my smart phone is not so smart. I put another 100 rounds through my Shield today with zero issues. I am still not as accurate with it as my 26, but it is plenty accurate for self defense.

I have about 250 through mine, American Eagle 124 Grain Ball and +P+ 124 Grain Hydrashok. Have not had a hicup. Didn't clean it before shooting it. Wanted to see how it would do. Shot it out to 25 yards. Center mass hits were easy.

It will be much easier to qualify with than with my 642.

I would maybe try some different ammo. Hopefully it was just a new gun glitch.

Next, some holsters.
