Shield 9mm trigger pull

Hey all. So my wife got a shield 9mm and we took it out last weekend for it's break in.
So my problem with it is the trigger. It takes a lot of pull to take a shot... even for me. I went to a gun store asking about fixing it and they said the only way is a trigger upgrade. Anyone know which triggers are best for a Shield? Thanks in advance.

A lot of people like a company called Apex Tactical Specialties. I have no connection to them and have not used any of their products.
Is the Shield a Gen 1 or 2 ? I can't imagine it's a Shield Plus because that has a great trigger in my opinion.
I have a Gen 1 and fell into a Shield Plus and the trigger is night and day between the two. Good luck.

Yep. The trigger on my Shield 9mm 1.0 was near 7 lbs. when i bought it 9 years ago. I installed the Apex hardened sear and that reduced the trigger pull to a respectable 4 lbs. Now, with over 3k rounds through it and many dry fires, it has settled in at 3¾ lbs.

Saved me the expense of an entire trigger group and I'm happy with it.

If the gun is a 1.0, have the Apex sear installed. It makes a LOT of difference.

If the gun is 2.0 or Plus, make sure it is not a MASS. compliant gun with the ten pound trigger spring. If it is, the trigger spring can be replaced with a standard trigger spring.

I put the Apex Duty/Carry kit in mine and it made a world of difference. I also put a forward set, flat faced trigger in my M&P 2.0 compact. It is the best flat faced trigger I have experienced on a striker fired gun to date.

My first thought too was perhaps the gun was a Massachusetts gun. If not, the as others have mentioned, do the Apex upgrade. I have a few that I’ve done and it truly makes a heck of a difference.

Ok. Trying to do some you tube research as well... For what that's worth lol. This one is bought New... Not sure where manufacturer... but bought in Texas. It's a M2.0

Easy way to I.D. Mass springs are (red) look into the trigger area the spring is 10 lbs if its red, the sear spring will also be heavier, same with striker spring.

I would buy a M*Carbo trigger spring kit & bevel the striker block plunger + smooth a few surfaces that are sharp on the trigger bar, kit comes with a trigger return spring, sear spring & striker spring & costs $25ea kit for the Shields

Have a similar project going on an Optics Ready Shield Plus I am trying to replicate the trigger of a Performance Center Shield Plus

Waiting on the spring kits from M*Carbo, ordered Black Friday for 20% Off

I would also buy a Flat Faced Factory Shield Plus trigger & put that in your M2.0 IF you can find one that is

It is an auction & I understand why...

I bought two of those triggers & put one in a M1.0 & M2.0
It made the mushy trigger go away as it takes away the hinged trigger & just has a better feel, worth the $85 they sell for...

Buy some snap caps and dry fire it a few hundred times. Clean it and lube it. No lube in the striker channel. I would try these things before throwing parts at it. Personally, I would not want a carry gun with a sub 4lb trigger unless it has a manual safety.

I would find out what the actual pull weight is before anything. He can take the slide off and look at the color of the return spring to see if it's Mass. compliant.

It's pretty clear that this fella doesn't have much experience with handguns, which makes it great that he's here asking questions.

Maybe he just doesn't know what a trigger pull should feel like.

For a striker fired gun, seven pounds is a lot.

I have a MASS compliant Plus and the trigger doesn't bother me at all because it is so darn smooth. I might modify it later on but for now I'm going to leave it as is with the ten pound trigger pull.

I run an Apex duty carry trigger kit in my Gen 1 Shield. Lightened the pull a bit (I can’t recall exactly how much), and vey smooth. Go to Apex Tactical website and peruse options, or call Apex; they are very helpful.

You may find this disturbing, but it appears that you and I think quite alike.

What gets to me sometimes is a guy shows up somewhere with his first M&P, might even be his first handgun, and the instant reflex response is "APEX." Forums, Reddit etc. I see it all the time.

The very capable fella who manages a LGS here has a full size 2.0 in 9mm that he put an Apex kit in.

I haven't shot it, but I have dry fired it. It is REALLY nice. No 2 ways about it. I am not against Apex.

That said, what if we let somebody put a bit of range time in with the thing before immediately recommending a major and expensive upgrade?

I get why people love Apex triggers, but not EVERYbody will be appreciably benefited by one. Especially if they haven't even used the gun yet.

Perhaps I should have been more explicit. Since when was 7 pounds a heavy trigger on a carry gun.

Yes, 7 pounds is a lot more than a Canik TP9 Elite, Walther PPQ, or CZ P10C. It's probably a pound or more heavier than the trigger on my Walther PPS, but how light do you want to go on a carry pistol? I know, it's a comfort level thing.

THIS is a standard trigger return spring for an M&P pistol.

Not quite. Springfield MA is the location of S&W. If you have the box, check the label. Look up/post the SKU number. It may even say MA Compliant on it.

When in edit mode, go to advanced. You'll see a paperclip icon. Press it and it will open the Manage Attachments box. Pick the pics, press upload, close the window, go back to the paperclip and now select the pics to attach.
