shield 9mm vs XDS 9mm

I'm in Tampa, Shoot Straight and others always have them at the gun shows, suncoastgunshows.com for $449, they may bargain a little now, I paid $449 in April last year. They have a bunch every time I go.

Shields in 9 have be pretty readily available for 399.99 lately at my LGS

The XDS in 9 is the new hot small 9 and hard to find in my neck of the woods I just happened to luck out and walk into another LGS as they were putting the 1 they got in out

I love my Xds 45, I'm expecting to love the Xds 9 just as much.

I paid $569 for my XDS. If I add to that $200 plus another $250 then that's $1,019 total...wow! I must be reading that wrong. By the way I will put my 15 yr old Taurus PT 92 up against a Colt or S&W any day for quality, accuracy and reliability. Not saying that for any Taurus...just mine.

U read it all wrong, lol.

He took the extra $200 from the sell of his XDS and added another $250 to that $200 profit he just made.

In the end he paid $450 for a Shield. $200 of which was technically money that was given to him by some tard who wanted an XDS that bad, lol. Si in reality my brother only spent $250 of his money on a Shield .40.....This is why he thought that was the best $250 he ever spent.

I hunted around for a Shield but no luck since they were released. I've pretty much given up on them and am now going to set my sights on a Walther pps 9mm. Never was a big XD fan so I'll probably pass on those.

I recently took a look at the Walther PPS 9mm and I was really impressed. It has a nice feel to it (grip, weight distribution) and I really like the sights. I would have bought it but I am not sure I could get used to the trigger guard style magazine release. I also couldn't justify the price difference ($130 more than a Shield). I also liked the Beretta Nano but will likely buy the Shield unless I can get past the Walther's mag release.

Were seeing more and more Shields here at the LGS recently. Seem to be selling here for around 409-429. I sure like mine, its my favorite concealed carry.

I was recently searching for a 9mm shield. One LGS quoted me $599 and I about laughed in his face. I told him that Sportsman's Warehouse down the road retails them for $415 but they were out of stock. I said no thanks I will just wait and not pay the rip off price. I found one at a different LGS a week later for $419. Love the gun but I am glad I waited to get it for the right price. I have noticed that the .40 version is in stock more around here than the 9mm but it is getting better.

"I would be interested in comparison of the trigger, recoil and overall impression if anyone has range time with both weapons in 9mm."

By me reading of this Thread, only one person asnwered the questions posed.
Today I pick up a XDS 9mm, a California compliant Shield is still on order. They are for my wife to choose from for a smaller Concealed Carry firearm than her G19 or S&W M&P9. I will let her make the decision.
There is a lot of supposition Posted on these types of Forums, some good information but one must be very careful to glean what is objective versas what is subjective or completely off topic as with this Thread.-Dick

If the Shield came in 45...,Id be there too

My Shield in 40 has been awesome.

I overpaid a bit, but its a great little gun

I think I will bide my time till they get good and in stocked everywhere, but I want one! I hesitated to buy the shield for my wife, and I am glad I did. She ended up not liking it at the range. She loved the feel of the XDs, but couldn't handle the kick (she is a small creature) and nor could I frankly (I don't like anything over a .40 coming out of a polymer frame), but I wouldn't be surprised if we both end up with one! I Also hesitated to get the shield, because I hopped on the bodyguard bandwagon when it first came out. 1. I hated it after a while! Great concealment, but terrible handling. 2. After I bought mine for $550 (which was a steal) they lowered them down to $375ish wasn't it? I got burned, and I am still a little upset at S&W for that one. I love all my revolvers, but I dunno...

I took mine (9mm Shield) to the range the other day and very impressed with it and its accuracy. I know I won't get rid of mine and won't get the XDS 9mm just very happy with the Shield.

Sounds like the xDs in 9 should be in stores within the next month. I will get one as soon as I can. Love the trigger and feel of my xDs in 45. I think they will have an absolute winner on their hands. Go to YouTube and look for the review Hickok45 did for it
Recoil is subjective, but would like such input on your XDs45. TIA!

"I would be interested in comparison of the trigger, recoil and overall impression if anyone has range time with both weapons in 9mm."

I can answer one side of the equation now.
The XDS 9mm is relatively easy to shoot, my wife can rack the slide, she says it feels 'heavy', so far it's been 100%. I took it right out of the box, no disassembly, no cleaning, no nothing as I usually do, fired Speer Lawman 124gr TMJ at 7 yds, all in the black, no bruised nuckles, I like the front fiber optic sight. Trigger is mushy but eventually stacks and breaks. Speer Gold Dot 124 gr, no problems.
Comes with blocky paddle holster and mag carrier which is marked for 9mm 40 45ACP, so as supposed a 40 S&W is in the works. Huge carrying case! Could probably eliminate the accessories and case and save a few bucks.
I'm still waiting for my California Shield so I can't give you a comparison yet but if A left side mag release is important to you, I wouldn't hesitate the get one of these XDS9's.-Dick

I can only compare my XDs 45 to my 40C as I do not own a Shield but here are some thoughts.

XDs
- Overall a really quality build here. Nicely machined with really tight tolerances from the factory. I would say it bears some similarity to my PM9 in that it's a good idea to get a 200 round break-in period done before expecting 100% reliability due to it being very tight from factory.

-Let's just say on the whole the trigger is better out of the box than my 40C. No comparison.

-Best and most user friendly factory sights I've seen on a production model so far.

-Much less perceived recoil than one would expect for a .45 of this size. Surprisingly shootable.

-Must be handled with authority and good shooting technique or the user will experience a rash of problems. You will find a ton of information about this all over the net.

- Very narrow and aggressive grip that does not feel nearly as nice in the hand as any M&P. A lot of XDs owners put the Talon rubber grips on to limit some of the grips bite to the hand.

-The 40C and XDs 45 are apples and oranges but I love them both. I wanted the smallest, most practical, and reliable .45 I could accurately shoot. That's exactly what I have with the XDs 45 so I'm beyond pleased with it so far. Anyone who knocks SA's quality really needs to take a closer look at how well made these little guns are.

Dick.....are you in CA? If so how did you get an xDs? Do they make a CA compliant xDs? Only asking as both of mine came with huge stickers on the case saying NOT LEGAL in CA

Both are great guns

I have both. The Shield is definitely more comfortable to the hand. The triggers are different in the feel but the pull on both seems similar. Both triggers have a nice reset. I feel the XDS slide pulls back and sets easier. My Shield spring is much stronger. They both shoot great. The sites on the XDS are definitely better. Putting a full clip in my Shield can result in blood blisters if you're not careful. Gotta give a really hard push to get it in and locked. The XDS slides in and locks with ease. I thought I would buy the XDS and send the jury out and sell one or the other. I have an XDM 40 4.5 that I love, so I kind of expected the XDS to win in the end. I don't think the jury's coming back (hung), so I'm probably going to keep both. Oh well.

If you find out this works...I will be all over that! I guess it should? You might need a new slide too though.

Keep in mind, we didnt need a new slide for the Shield .40 to 9mm conversion. Or even for the 9mm to .40 conversion (although some modding of the .40 barrel had to be done for that conversion)

But since we are going from 45 to 9mm. No where close to the same size. You could very well be right, because honestly i've never seen 45 go to 9mm without a completely new upper.

I saw plenty of new XDS 9's for sale today at the local gun show. Looks just like the 45. GARY

I agree, they look identical. But looks are very deceiving, lol

There are 2 things off the top of my head that scare me about thinking of going from .45 to 9mm.

The feed ramp geometry is unworkable for the 45 to 9. Atleast this is what the past has shown us. .45's use a large primer and 9mm is a small primer. BUMMER.
