Shield a +1 gun?

This is what I was looking for, being new I didnt know that every semi-auto is a +1 either

They aren't.

It's been 20+ years since I had a shop, but a new gun came in.......
I'm trying to remember if it was Sig's first plastic gun, or their first compact 45, or what. I really DON'T remember what it was, nor IF it was even a Sig, but a brand new name brand auto came in that would NOT seat a fully loaded mag with the slide in battery.
Sorry I can't remember exactly what it was, but that was several thousand guns ago.
It was probably just an early glitch with the followers and probably worked out later.
I still try them all. ;)

Sounds like a 0 + 0

It's always what the magazine holds which varies with every type/make of magazines, and the +1 is the round in the chamber (if you carry one chambered like most of us do)

I am guessing that you are pretty new to firearms? If so .. good to know. How else are you going to learn if ya don't ask? Anyways, some of us here reeeaaally needed the comical relief, and you were IT :o

New to handguns, but not to the internet, so not really surprised by the responses

Let it slide. We all started out at some point. Not everyone has/had the benefit of growing up in a home with a peer/parent to mentor. That would be me. You can learn a lot on the 'net, make contacts that can benefit you in many great ways. Have you found a gun website in/for your state? If not do a google search. There are a lot of very good gun people who will gladly help you get started so that you are safe and do things correctly from the start.

Silly as it sounds, this is actually a legitimate question, sort of....

Some semi's work better with one less round in the magazine that specified, at least until the magazine spring gets a little "used".... So, if you have a seven round magazine, loading the top round into the chamber and NOT putting another round in to top off the magazine may be a good idea for a month or so....

(I expect the guns that don't like a full magazine are/were in the same boat.)

I had to learn about everything the hard way. With a lot of help here on the forums. Dad was in the CCC program before WWII, and a Medic all through the war, and while he never got overseas, he likely qualified with about everything that a single Infantryman would be likely to carry, but when I started talking about bringing a gun into the house, he insisted that I bring a badge, too. So I did.... ("Rent-a-cop".) Never could get him interested in going to the range, though.

I had an uncle who was a pistol instructor during WWII, too, but he never wanted to be around 'em after the war. Another uncle briefly ran a supply warehouse in Italy, and could have sent his six kids through college with a handful of the captured drillings & such in there, but when his turn to come home showed up, he handed the keys to the next guy and got on the boat....

OTOH, I'm a born tinkerer anyway, and one of the great things about the M&P's (and the 1911) is that you can pretty easily figure out how they work, and do whatever's necessary.

Regards,

I'm next in line with S&W, but I just had a thought. It may be because it comes with 2 different capacity size magazines unlike the other models.

ETA: On hold for 54min now. I was first at position 9 but I wonder if anyone is even there now.

ETA#2: Obviously they cut out early since I called before they closed. I'll try again tomorrow morning and update in this thread.

54 mins, wow, I dont think I would have had the patience.

Hey .. I cracked on the guy too. But as he stated, he is new to handguns. A joke gets really old if you keep it going too long, then it's just not funny any longer.

Thanks for the advice, joined a few forums. My Dad also got back interest in handguns, but he was always a revolver guy. So we are learning semi's together.

Good for both of you. try to find a trainer in your area and both of you take some classes.

Two magazines: I've been carrying the spare magazine for my M&P40FS in a belt clip, while carrying a standard 40C magazine in a 40C. Two pluses: If I actually need the fool thing, it'll work, and fit, and that's a lot of rounds.... And, if I decide to grab the 40FS for some reason, I've already got a suitable spare magazine on my belt.

(I think I've mentioned this before - I carry an M&P40 - usually the Compact - around the house. Lighter gun than a 1911, and it doesn't require a special belt. Good holster, though, for the 40FS. "Outside", it's an Officer's sized 1911. Heavy, special belt & holster, but tack drivers and dependable. The 1911's also are already set up with night sights and lasers. The budget just won't handle upgrading one of the M&P's at this point.)

On the road, the M&P40C is an "airline travel gun" - I wouldn't get too upset to get an insurance check for it, preferably after I got home, and I have no problem carrying it while I'm wherever. I'd hate to lose it in an uncompensated way, but it doesn't have the blood, sweat, and tears in it as does either of my small 1911's. :D

Thank you Lee for a bit of sanity.
