Barrel be put on a 9 shield I just got.

Yeah, but it will NOT just drop in.

You have to grind the .40 Shield barrel down a bit in order to make it fit into the 9mm Slide. Use the SEARCH button, you will find all the info you need on it here.

Smitty357, are you sure the 9mm slide will accommodate a wider 40 round? We tried to discuss this in a previous thread, but you never answered. I ask because normally, a 40cal case will not engage a 9mm breech face (where the primer side of the case meets the slide to engage the extractor and firing pin. It simply will not fit. Going from a 40 to a 9, there is wiggle room, but this is not true for the opposite. Do you have first-hand experience with going from a 9mm up to a 40, using the same slide? If not, do you know someone who does, who can give their input?

Better yet, does anyone here have both a Shield 9 and a Shield 40 to see if a 40 rd will fit in the 9 slide?

I searched, but am only finding evidence of stepping down in caliber, not stepping up.

A good rule of thumb is you can go smaller but not larger. Many will drop a 9MM barrel in a .40S&W or a .357sig in a .40 but I haven't heard of a .40 in a 9. I suppose it could be done but not after butchering the new barrel or the pistol.

I, for one would not recommend it. Stay with 9MM in a 9MM Shield & save your money for a .40 cal pistol. A barrel conversion also means new mags except for a .357sig to a .40S&w.

Thanks, that clears up specifically what I was inquiring about. I guess the Shield slide design is different than the SD's and other M&P's. Learn something new every day. Thanks guys!

Yes im pretty sure me, rob and several other members have had this conversation a few times. It'll work either way, just make sure u follow instructions.

I get that, and conversation is fine, but I wanted to know from someone who actually did the swap. If you are one of those people, it was not clear to me. I don't have a Shield, don't plan on having one, so I'll never do the conversion. It just didn't make sense to me that the bolt faces would be the same on both Shields, unlike other models, and I wanted to be sure I understood correctly. Thanks for everything guys.

Of course I knew it would work. I mean after all, i'm the one who originally showed everyone it would work to start with. I've been testing the conversion since October of last year. Which was about 2 months or so before we were ever able to track down any barrels to swap.
