I really busted up some knuckles last night reassembling my shield after cleaning. I normally rack the slide with an overhand grip at the back (by the wavy lines). I should have just stuck an empty magazine in the well and done just that to lock the slide back. But foolishly, I gripped the front end of the slide (so I could see the slide lock lever) and pulled the slide back. The slide was still slippery from CLP and my hand slid back into the open ejection port with the result that I lacerated the ends of two fingers. So WARNING: don't do this. It hurts and the blood will rust your gun.

I got bit by a new Kahr once with their 8,000lb springs. I'm pretty careful now.

Good advice.. Last time I was reassembling I noticed how awkward it was holding the slide back and throwing the latch. I like the idea with the magazine.

Most painful bite I ever received from a gun was the infamous M1 Thumb. You could use those things to resize their own brass.

Using a screwdriver to push the button to take off an SKS trigger guard... Screwdriver slipped off and met my hand. Only had to learn that lesson once... OUCH!!!

scott9mm hope you heal up quick. Reminds me of the lesson many people learn about not holding your hand on the top of a Beretta 92fs and try to cycle the slide.
