First trip to the range with my new Shield. 200 rounds without issues. Hit center mass from 5-7 yards but that's the extent of it. But the main thing was making sure it worked well.

The last time I shot was during my CC class a few weekends ago. Used a rental Ruger 22lr and put 22 in the 10 circle and 8 in the 9 circle. Thought I was a real cowboy. Wasn't that accurate with the 9mm.

Going to need to practice, but there's a shooting range ten minutes from my workplace.

I wouldn't worry but comparing your results between the .22 and the short barreled Shield 9mm; sounds like you did just fine for the first outing.
Now with practice at those distances one can get quite proficient with a Shield, just takes time working on form/grip/etc to nail it down.

After a fair amount of rounds thru my Shield, those short distances i am fully satisfied with my accuracy. It's at longer distances (10-15 yds and up) that i can start to see it lower vs my Buckmark .22.

That's probably to be expected for many shooters I'd think.

Personally I think 7 yards 21 ft is the maximum range in a defensive shooting . While it's great to be able place shots at longer distances my primary concern is consistent shots at 5 to 7 yards . If I want a target gun I would buy a target gun meant for long distant accuracy . My feelings are in a real defense scenario we will go with our muscle memory and not have time to get the perfect grip or sight picture . My Shield is not a target gun .

congrats on your new Shield....center mass is the most important as far as I am concerned....I also practice at 5 to 7 yards as these short barrels are not really for long shooting

Two things: The 8 round clip had a little bit of play when shooting. Upon insterting it, it felt flush, but under fire, a bit of looseness. The 7 round mag was flush.

Secondly, I always close my left eye when shooting and aim with my right eye. Ever since I shot BB rifles and pistols as a kid. I've read of people shooting with both eyes open and I tried that, but it didn't work for me. Is there a reason I should try and shoot with both open?

I aim at the left ear....hit em in the heart every time. Still working on my grip!
