I have something on my Shield that really irks me. It shoots great, feels great, has a fantastic trigger and I love it but.....

The wording on the right side "Caution capable of firing with magazine removed" is not straight. The statement is engraved at a slight angle. Ok I admit to minor OCD. This bothers me but I dont know if I should just let it go or send it in for a slide replacement.

What would you do?

FYI, My CCW was issued today and if I send it in I do have a M&P 9C I can use while its gone.

I tried to insert the photo and Im doing somethign wrong. Its also here

Let it go. Shoot the heck out of it, and put enough holster wear on it to obscure the writing.

Send it in! My ocd wouldn't allow me to look at that gun on a daily basis either. I feel your pain

That would bother me too. But I'd just shoot it until it broke and then send it in and say "oh by the way...".

Send it in to straighten it? Way to OCD...
Remove the paint from the etching (maybe some non-acetone fingernail polish?) and redo it in black if need be.

That's what I'll be doing when I get the time... Just to make it less noticeable. :)

I'm not sure S&W will replace the slide for a cosmetic issue like that....I guess the only way to know will be to call them and ask them.

On the one hand, I think it is a tad bit too picky...but on the other, most of us do like for our pistols (even the inexpensive polymer ones) to look good as well as shoot good. If they will fix it, go for it...if they won't, then shoot it and enjoy it. I doubt that a bad guy will care...it's the hole in the end of the slide he'll be looking at.

Yeah that looks out of spec. Waaaay past acceptable tolerances. I am surprised you can even rack that slide and the gun shoots at all. /sarcasm

I'd let it go. And if ever it had to go back to the mother ship for another repair then have it fixed.

Just to make the OP feel better...I won't buy a Shield until they make one with the magazine lock, which I would then disable, Just so the slide doesn't have any of that dumb@$# writing on it...straight or not!

I'm sorry but I don't think something this stupid should be stamped onto a gun..."Caution this gun might fire if you pull the trigger" No @^#& Sherlock!!

I know people that purposely buy models with the mag safety just so the slide is sans the warning. Not sure if the shield is available with one or not. It's getting hard to tell what is available anymore on the S&W website. :(

Ignore it and be happy. Nice gun BTW.

If you are really bugged by it, call S&W and talk about it. See what they say. Now the ones that I think that are way tooooo picky is those who complain about it being there.

take it out back, throw it in the dirt, stomp on it (unloaded obviously). then see how big a deal the crooked engraving is. But honesly, it its gonna be your CCW gun, the finish is going to take a beating anyways so just let it go. Honestly. As long as it's functioning and the finish isn't flawed in the sense that it's missing or discolored.. keep it. I think the crooked engraving looks pretty sweet.

All retardation aside...

Yes it would bug the **** out of me. You bought an expensive and supposedly precisely engineered machined product and the engraving is crooked. In fact it is WAY crooked.

To me it's no different that buying a car with a run in the paint or a house where something structural wasn't built "quite" right.

Expensive for the one at fault to correct. Yes. Your problem? No... it should be corrected.

Tool, toy, junk, museum piece, doesn't matter if it bugs you send it back. The OP didn't spend his hard earned greenbacks to get something half assed. Doesn't matter if it as major as a cracked slide, or crooked lettering, it should be right, period. For the record I'd send it back.

I also think the word "Removed" is a brighter white than the rest.

That's way past OCD.....I wish I had the time to worry about such trivialities in my life, you should have caught that in your "OCD precheck"
You do realize that if you actually do send that slide back you may get one that actually has something WRONG with it!

Where will it end? How much of someone elses time will you waste for something as silly as this? If OCD is a mental health disease, why don't you get some help instead of doing **** like this.

Lay fault where it lies....YOU", your the one that accepted that pistol the way it is, my guess is if it cost you $85.00 to ship it back on your dime you would somehow find a way to live with this gross unacceptable glaring mistake. Sheesh

OCD aside. It should have been caught during the QA check by S&W. Same as my breech face that had not been milled correctly. Right or wrong, my guess is that they were passing marginal stuff in order to get enough volume out there in the retail space.

If I look close enough at my FS 9mm slide, the last letter in the entire warning (the D) is closer to the bottom of the slide than the first (the C). Thanks for pointing it out, off to the garbage can it goes.

;) Really though, just shoot it and don't worry about it. Sometimes I have OCD about certain things but this is a gun that is more of a tool than anything else since it is meant to be carried for self defense. Now if it was a full on custom, one of a kind gun, I might be irked enough to get it fixed since I paid for crooked wording.

If it bothers you enough, call S&W and see what they say. IMO, shoot it and forget about it or blacken it out somehow.
