Shield Lube?

This afternoon I took down my Shield 40 and cleaned/lubed it for the first time. I haven't shot it yet. I lubed it, as per the instructions, at the 7 recommended spots, using RemOil. I didn't use any rail grease (such as Weapon Shield, or automotive oil). I just used the RemOil as per the book. This didn't seem like a lot of lube, and the RemOil is quite thin.

Question - What do most of you guys use for lube in these pistols? Do you find that the S&W recommendations are adequate? I've been used to Glocks, and I used Mobil 1 15w50 motor oil on them, along with a bit of Weapon Shield grease.

M-Pro 7 gun oil (mfr by Hoppes). Doesn't take much -- or you wind up trapping more dirt witn too much.
 
I use Hoppe's Elite to clean, and Weapon Shield to lube. I use Weapon Shield grease on my 1911 slides, but not on my polymer pistols.
 
I use Hoppes. Seven drops and I use a patch to remove most of the oil on the barrel lube points.

I clean it after each range session where I shoot 100-300 rounds in a day.

Never had any issues with this gun.

tetra lub. it used to smell. has to be shaken well every use. if/ before you apply it, cycle your slide, then after you apply, cycle again. you can hear a difference. started to use it to treat the bore. one of the reasons i started to use it. it makes the bore easier to clean, espically in rifles. use spareinly. my 2 cents. suggestions. don`t get it on painted surfaces, sights, plastic surfaces. even after you wipe it off. wipe it off again. if you have to much EXCESS on the slide, as it heats up the splashback will burn any exposed skin. you`ll know right away if the weapon wasn`t wiped down enough. tetra lub is made to soak in the micro pores and protect/ lub. it does darken the finish somewhat.
 
I do use a little slide grease ( Montana X-treme ) on slide contact points and I do mean a little. IMHO since I am not over in the " Sandbox " the grease doesn't attract any grit and stays put better with a better lube quality. I also use Rem-oil on all the other required areas. Again just my 2 cents worth.
 
You just asked the gun oil question equal to, "Guys, which are more fun blondes, brunettes, or redheads". Brace for reports of everything from Crisco to WD40. Now, let me tell you about the Crisco/WD40 mixture I use... :)

I have used Mobil1 synthetic 20W50 motorcycle oil with good results for years. It is really slick, and thick enough to stay where I put it. Why this brand and thickness? I always have several quarts on the shelf waiting to go into my scoots, so my supply is always there. At $9 a quart it isn't cheap when compared to other motor oils, but when compared to the price of "gun oils" it is dirt cheap.

So... I knuckled under the other day and bought some of the Gun Butter products. I started with the grease which I need for my M1A and M1 Garand actions and liked it enough to try some of their gun oil. I'll have to say, with my limited use this Gun Butter seems to be really slick stuff. Back to price, a bottle of their oil is smaller than my thumb and costs around $12-15!!

Maybe I'm in the wrong business.

Lube

CLP. Has worked for years and seems to run most things w/out and issues. Used MPro7 for a bit but had some issues with it as it and the cleaning agent by MPro 7 seemed to foul the firing pin chamber.
 
Just like beer and swimming pools. Other peoples is always the best :)

I use a lot of CLP. I used to mess around with grease for frame rails and wherever else inthought it would be better. But keep it simple now.

I also wipe my guns down with plain ol Hoppe's #9 after cleaning them as they go into the safe.

My bil does the gun show circuit.He's always passing along samples to me.Lot's of good lubes and cleaners around.Free is good.
 
Well, I'll throw in my .02 (since you asked)

I use Frog Lube exclusively on all my firearms, including an M&P 9mm and M&P 15. Is it more expensive than Mobile 1? Yes, but it is also a cleaner, which M1 is not. Also, and this is a personal note, FL is owned by a former Navy SEAL and a portion of his profits goes back to several military and veteran organizations.

FL is also plant based and is completely non-toxic (they claim you can eat it), smells better than petrol based products, and acts as a great corrosion barrier. It stays fairly dry until it heats up, so it's great for a home defense firearm.

As they say in their ads, "It just works."
 
After cleaning, I use a few dots of Shooters Choice grease on the rails. Works pretty good.

I use Weapon Shield. It lubricates very well (just like the older FP-10 before it was sold off by the same man who developed Weapon Shield). I have used many different CLPs and other variants through the years but Weapon Shield has proven to be a better lubricant and with much better corrosion protection than most - actually better than all that I have used. It is also safer to use than most of the others based on the MSDS.
 
All those lubes work great...clean your gun regularly and don't over lube. The only thing that keeps a gun from not working properly is an anti-gun person trying to take that right away!!. Contact your local congressman and join a pro-gun association of your choice. The **** that Fienstein and Obama are promoting is the most serious threat to 'our' 2ND amendment in years. Please take it serious....a total gun ban is imminent unless we do something. A 'ban' on certain guns is the start to registration....and confiscation....it is a reality.....thanks...online ammo sales are also on the table....limit ammo and your gun is just a big paper weight...this is some serious stuff so please take it serious....
