Shield Plus (10 round flush mag) in the works

I'm a little peeved that I bought a Shield last year now that they have one that holds 3 more rounds without the hinged trigger, but then again, no one is going to convince me the technology wasn't available to squeeze a few more rounds in a similar size pistol many years ago. From that standpoint, I'm not going to play the game this time (I'm not going to upgrade to get three more rounds). If anyone doubts that SIG, Springfield Armory, S&W, etc. couldn't figure out the dimensions to make smaller magazines with higher capacity a long time ago, I have a bridge to sell you on eBay. There's a word for it: "oligopoly". If anyone thinks that's a conspiracy theory, they are naive, and anyone taking an business ethics class for an MBA knows this (my textbook mentioned S&W and Ruger specifically). Hundreds of mid-level executives have gone to prison for engaging in anti-competitive practices for everything from television manufacturing to banking services. CEOs keep their noses clean by sending mid-level executives to negotiate in hotel rooms during trade conventions to give "competitors" an excuse to be in the same hotel in the same city at the same time. The point system the ATF allegedly uses is a watered down version in my opinion. it's pretty easy to spot when you know firearms well enough to compare features and question manufacturing design choices. Eventually it's easy to see why manufactures appear to hold back by offering a higher-than-necessary bore axis, lower-than-typical round count, insufficient grip texturing, poor triggers, etc. Slow and steady upgrades across manufacturer lines are planed & agreed upon many years in advance, and product launches are executed in ways to disguise the group effort as much as possible. When Youtuber fanboys claim we're in the golden age of firearms, they fail to recognize what the market could have been like if these companies truly competed. Firearms are some of the oldest "modern" technologies, but look at much more quickly products that didn't exist before the 20th Century advanced in comparison (everything from planes to automobiles to computers). But firearms manufacturers are also likely among the oldest oligopolies.

You are correct. The AVERAGE is 3 rounds. There could be a lot of one shot that resolved the problem.

I suspect that many problems are resolved on zero shots. When cornered, as soon as I pulled my gun, the bad guy ran away.

Works great

I love the gun and the 10 rd magazine. Hate the 13 rd magazine because I can't get it apart. Maybe it's defective. Maybe it's my advanced age and lack of "grip". And the manual isn't as clear (at least to me) as it could be for taking apart for cleaning. Not sure why the couldn't have made this 13 round magazine with the same type "grip/spacer/adapter" as on the standard Shield. And my Compact magazine 12 round is easier to take apart.

I have shot this gun twice, adjusted the sights for "my" shooting and 1 more adjustment and I'll be just fine with it.

Next time at the range I'll ask someone there to show me how to take it apart and reassemble.

Still burning question. Why the obsession with a mini 9mm that holds 12-15 bullets? Heck sometimes I still carry a J-Frame.......IT ONLY HOLDS 5. FBI statistics reveal that most gun altercations between individuals(we're not cops) are resolved with 3 shots or less.

The only people who complain about having too much ammo are people on fire or drowning. ;)
"I'm carrying too much ammo" said no cop ever, after a gunfight.

I have a Shield Plus. I’ve reached out to S&W twice for info on availability of additional 13+1 clips and have received no reply. Anyone know the answer?

13rd mags are pretty much unobtanium right now. I got lottery-level lucky and scored 2@$40/ea but haven't seen any since except for the insane prices on GunBroker (which I refuse to use).

All I can suggest is getting on every 'notify when back in stock' list you can find and keep checking your email 'cause they'll sell out fast when/if anyone gets any in.

Good luck!

I'm not obsessed. I like guns and plastic ones are cheap enough for me to occasionally indulge my hobby. I don't feel under-gunned with my 7 round Shield (never carry the 8 round mag. Makes the gun bigger). Honestly, I rarely carry my Shield. I carry a 7 round Ruger LC9-S because it is smaller and lighter than the Shield. But if S&W made a gun the same size as my LC9-S,(which the 365 is), with 10 rounds, at a price point lower than the 365, then I am very interested.

As for more bullets means bigger gun, both Sig and Springfield found a way around it, which is why Smith had to or they're gonna miss out on a LOT of sales.

It's why I never added the Mag-Guts extension. For carry, I want smaller and lighter. If the Shield Plus is still bigger than the Sig 365 or Hellcat, I don't see it having much of an impact. Like it or not, the 365 and the Hellcat have eclipsed the Shield, and I said months ago that S&W better have something to compete, or they'd better drop the Shield price to what they were last year. I bought my new M&P 2.0 Compact 18 months ago for $399 brand new. Only thing keeping some from not buying the 365 now is the price.
It sounds like we think pretty much alike...my EDC is a Ruger LC9s Pro (no safety) because for me, it points more naturally, shoots as well as the Shield, and is slightly flatter and feels better IWB behind my hip. On the other hand, I dearly love my M&P9 2.0 (4.25") which resides wedged between the console and passenger seat in a padded nylon holster velcro-ed to the console.
