My input related to this topic: I lock the slide to the rear, insert a fully loaded magazine, hit the slide release and holster the firearm. I followed a similar regime before stepping out on missions in Iraq and have seen no reason to modify it when making ready my personal weapon. I choose not to smack the magazine floorplate when seating, drop/top off the magazine, perform a “press check”, feel for brass, cut springs/followers or any other added task. This is my technique based on my knowledge and experience and it has served me well for many years. Do whatever brings you peace.
