I recently bought a Shield Plus new. My trigger tool show fairly consistent 5lbs trigger weight. It feels just a little heavy for my preference. I have the original Shield 1.0 with an Apex Duty/Carry trigger kit, minus the apex return spring, and it comes in at 4.5lbs. It doesn’t seem like much but I shoot my Shield 1.0 much better. Practice isn’t helping.

I’ve found that the trigger sear and other trigger parts between the two are interchangeable. (So is the upper side assembly and parts)

Does anyone have a spring kit that will just slightly lighten the trigger? I’m open to other ways of slightly lightening the trigger. I’m not opposed to cutting springs if that will work.

One thing I’m not interested in doing is buying a whole new trigger kit to replace most of the original parts. I really like the Shield Plus trigger and feel that it’s on par with the Apex trigger, if not a little better. Short take up, crisp break, short over travel and short reset. The best stock striker trigger I’ve ever shot. (The 2.0 trigger is really good but mine, MP9 2.0 Subcompact, is a little gritty and has a decent amount of take up like manny striker guns, but it breakers clean and has a short reset).

Polish all mating fire control surfaces. Trigger bar sear and striker interfaces, striker block and its channel, then dry fire a few hundred times. Should drop 1/2# and smooth up without changing springs.

Alternatively, you could contact Apex for a lighter trigger return spring. It should produce 1/2# difference right away, but be ready for a further decrease as trigger control parts wear in (polish) over time.

Just replace the sear with the Apex 2 dot sear.

Just replace the sear with the Apex 2 dot sear.

My concern with that is it would likely change other dynamics of the trigger pull and I actually prefer the stock dynamics over the apex (I have a shield 1.0 with the duty/carry kit). To me, comparing it to my 1.0 with Apex kit, it has slightly less take up, way less over travel, and a shorter reset. That might have something to do with the flat vs curved trigger, but I also don’t want to spend $40.

I’m also not sure polishing will do what I want.

A lighter trigger return spring is the ticket I think.

Any other option someone knows about?

Polishing won’t hurt and probably won’t cost anything (or much for supplies anyway). Worth a try. The spring will be over-priced with shipping, but it will accomplish what you want. I can’t think of anything else that wouldn’t change other trigger dynamics.

I can’t find a reduced weight return spring. The apex return spring adds weight. I might email them and see if they have something that will work.

I think I know where you’re coming from. The stock break is a nice rolling break. The Apex sears I’ve had in the past are crisp breaks. I’d want to keep the stock sear in my Shield Plus. There are multiple ways to reduce trigger “pull” weight beyond polishing all engagement surfaces, with the most direct being trigger return spring, safety plunger spring and sear spring. You probably don’t want to mess with the striker spring. Apex makes a competition spring kit for the regular M&Ps that have all lighter springs but I don’t know if they’re compatible with the Shield. I was surprised by the noticeable difference to trigger pull that a lighter safety plunger spring made.

Check to see what trigger return spring you have. If it silver change it to the factory copper spring that would do the trick. If you already have the factory copper you will just have to keep dry firing and running rounds through it and it will lighten up and smooth out. Another thing might be to change the safety plunger spring to a apex or wolf lighter spring. These are the ways to safely shave off 1/2 lb of pull. at least from my armorer experience. Never cut springs...

Good luck

feels gritty

To remove gritty feel try a whetstone on the trigger bar ramp that moves the striker block.
Helped on two of mine.
Good Luck

Hello,
I haven't polished anything yet but between dry firing about 250 times and 300 live rounds my standard Plus trigger has dropped almost 1/2 pound, besides smoothing out a bit. My PC 4" Plus hasn't changed much yet but was pretty good out of the box.
Good luck.
