Not sure if this was addressed elsewhere. I currently have a M&P 9C which I love. I may want to get a 9mm Shield eventually but I am a lefty. Does anyone have any thoughts if S&W will eventually come out with an ambi version? I don't actually reverse the mag release on my 9C because I can operate it better with my left middle finger than my thumb. My main concern is the thumb safety. I even would welcome a version without the safety. Any thoughts on either of these two situations in the future? This is a big reason why I am in no particular rush to purchase one. Thanks.

Or you could just NOT use the thumb safety. :-) The main reason I say this is because right now they are unable to stay in stock at many places, and if you see one and want one, you should probably grab it.

I hear what you say, but I was just putting out feelers if anyone thought they would eventually make any changes in the platform. Like I originally posted, not enough urgency to get one with my current situation (9C and lefty). Just wondering about the future.

I kinda agree with Jyezahn. Unless you lighten the trigger immensely, you could easily simply ignore the manual safety and be fine.

On days where my right wrist act up, I carry Lefty, just as easily as right handed. It would have been nice to have an ambi system, but to me, it's definitely not a deal breaker.

And... as mentioned... As hard as they are to find, get what you can.

I would say to not wait. As long as there is such big demand for the Shield, S&W has no reason to add other models. Possible when sales slow, then they will add models for the lefty.

I'm also a lefty and have a Shield. I was disappointed when I heard they did not make it ambi or have another model on the way for us, but still purchased it. So far I've been more than happy with it. I've found that I can click the safety off with my left thumb still while aiming the gun without too much difficulty. I do wish the slide release was on the other side, but am again used to it.

Like the other posters, I can't see an ambi coming out soon with them not being able to keep up production on the current model. Plus, I've read that they decided to have the release/safety only on one side to keep the width of the gun down and make it more streamlined for CC.

I don't see any reason they couldn't make a left handed version, it would require a completely different lower and upper though which would be a pretty large financial undertaking for Smith and Wesson, so they probably just have not seen enough interest in it, to warrant the investment yet.
