I know of 1 recall about the drop safety where S&W posted a video how to check if it affects your pistol. A friend of mine said he heard of a total of 3 "major" recalls on the shield. Any idea's?

Click on the tab marked "Product Safety and Recall Info."

And technically, the issue you cited was not a "recall". It was a "Product Safety Alert."

I know, Recall sounds so much more dramatic and Internet Appropriate.

I purchased my Shield new April 2012

I received one letter for my Shield from S&W and it was a safety alert not a recall for the trigger.

Most self inspections of the trigger reported on this forum came back working properly.

Your friend claiming 3 recalls of the Shield is a false statement.

I would suggest you look for a new friend.

Anyone who gets the NRA latest National Rifleman mag will see the SMALL column on the M&P safety recalls and you need to read it- they dont put this stuff out for s--- and giggles. there are email links and phone numbers

I've owned a Shield since June 2012. There has been ONE safety alert and ZERO recalls.

I guess I just don't get it. If you have the potential for a firearm to discharge when dropped, it's just an "alert"? What on earth does it take to get a "safety recall", dead people?
I had a young nephew that was killed when his revolver (different type weapon, I know) drop from his holster onto the trigger and discharge. Call me "sensitive" but, according to what I've read, if this trigger exhibits the "alert" item as revealed, then and only then, does S&W consider it a possible "safety" issues?
Please, help me understand!!

You know there are many different types of folks who use weapions- you see em at the range, would you let them date your sister? size em up and discount them if unsafe. Its like PPE in the workplace or those with power tools who dissable the guard on a saw- stay far away

In the case of the XD's, all firearms within a serial number range have been identified as having a definite safety issue. Apparently this issue is not something the consumer can readily and safely identify, therefore all XD's within this range have been recalled to the factory. SA will make the determination.
In S&W's case, there are some Shields within a S/N range that may have a safety issue and the verification process is simple enough that the consumer can do it. When the consumer performs the check, if their gun has the issue it is quite evident, it is a definite problem, and S&W will fix it.

I think...:o

I believe you are correct, and I think I remember reading where if an owner is unsure of how to do the check, he should have his certified S&W lgs perform it, or even have the gun returned to the factory.
