SHIELD Slide Question

I'm just wondering about how the Shield works when you insert a magazine.

On my M&P 40's when I insert a magazine with the slide in "slide lock" it will drop the slide without me "racking the slide".

I'm just wondering if S&W continued this with the M&P Shield or not ???

I like that feature with my M&P's and I'm wondering if the Shield does it.

My Shield doesn't. If the slide is back, with the slide lock holding it (whether I put it there, or it is back from the last shot from the previous mag, when I slide in the next magazine, the slide stays right where it is.

Mine do, when you slam the mag in it will drop the slide.

I can't remember right know, but I think S&W changed it after the M&P was out for a few years to were they wouldn't do it, which sucks, as I said I really like my M&P's doing it.

I believe all the previous m&p's could be induced to "auto-forward" as they call it. Some being easier than others. All examples I have tried will release the slide but some REALLY need the mag slammed home. S&W has apparently called it a "feature" of the gun but some people criticize it as a flaw because of the inconsistency. I personally don't mind auto-forward as long as it takes a fair amount of force for it to happen and I am also interested if the shield does it like the older m&p's.

It's not very scientific but I got my M&P9 Pro to auto-forward the slide 6 out of 10 times (using snap-caps) and could probably get that a bit higher with more practice as the angle of slamming the magazine in is critical. I tried a number of times and could not get the slide on the Shield to auto-forward. Part of the problem, unless it's just designed so it won't do it, is that due to the shorter grip it's difficult to slam the magazine in at the back of the grip. I guess it could be done against a table or other hard surface but that would sort of defeat the "feature."

I've tried this with a good slam of the mag on mine and it moves the slide lock only so far, but not enough to release the slide.

I guess you could always round off that corner so the slide stop has little grip if you really want it to do this.

The Shield does rack the slide by itself if you rammed the mag in there. All current Smiths do. However you really have to force it in there so hard that the odds of you doing it in real life is low....
