Shield: Talon Grip or Hogue HandAll It.

I have been trying to order a Talon grip for my .45 for a couple of weeks. Finally sent a note to Talon asking when they would be back in stock. Per Talon, they were having some sort of problem with the .45 grips and they wont put them back into stock until they resolve it. They said they would post details on thier web and Facebook sites shortly, just FYI if you are looking.

I installed a Talon grip on my 9mm shield yesterday, I think it was the last one in town after going to four shops looking for one. Initial observation is that it is well made, fits perfect, and feels much better than the plastic stippled grip.

Shield Grips

I put on the Talons. Perfect feel and theyhave been on for a year and are just as good now.

Wow. Lots of responses and lots of opinions. All valid. I had the talons on both of my shields and love them. No complaints. Except on long range days the recoil was a bit much. They really do not mitigate the hardness of the grip at all but do absolutely help with control. I bought a Hogue with beavertail for the shield and immediately loved it. It was tough to install but it is not moving. Shot a few hundred rounds and it feels great. I bought a second for my training shield and can't see myself going back. And the extra thickness added just enough to the shiled to give me better hand and trigger finger control. Added the Magguts magazine enhancement and I am happy as can be.

Why not buy both and shoot a few hundred rounds each to see which one suits you better? Use the hogue first since it doesn't use any adhesive to stay on.

Both are easy on the pocket and you can always resell the hogue if you decide the talon is better for you.

Talon rubbers user here and it's a night and day from the factory grips but I'll be buying the hogue soon just to see how that little extra girth helps.

No ones really mentioned it but aside from a touch of girth and a nice feel, the coolest thing I like about the Hogue's is that they have molded in finger slots.

+1 for the Hogue Beavertail grip. It works for me so I put them on both my Shields (9/40...couldn't resist the $75 rebate!). I had the Talons, but they were still a little too thin for me. I guess it's a matter of how your hand wraps around. It was tight getting them on. However, I used a hairdryer and heated both the grip and sleeve while slowly nudging it upward. For me, this grip isn't going anywhere..Also no print for AIWB CCW from the grip, but the extended mag is another story..

I Like'em Stock

Hello. Interested in input from experienced Shield owners who have tried or used either or both of the grips noted in the subject of this thread. Thanks in advance! Best Regards, Ed
Hope all is good in OP. Was back there for the holidays. Ask your self if you really need any enhancement for your Shield.
I have two and find them fine stock. It is designed as a SD piece
and when concealed carry the stock girp does well and doesn't "grab" covering garments.
This said, it is your piece and if you enjoy changing anything__go for it.
Stay safe

Probably depends on what you are looking for. I have never used the Hand All but I believe it will add thickness to the grip area.

I have used the Talon grips, on my Shield, Glock 43 and a Glock 19, and love them. I would go with the less textured version because the sandpaper one is pretty rough against the skin/clothes.

The main complaint with them is that they don't stick like they should at times but I have never had that issue with mine.

Totally agree, I have the rubberized Talon grips on all of my polymer frame guns, (Shield, Glocks and Kahrs) they are great. The don't add thickness and I always use a heat gun to help seat the grips. I have never had a problem with them not sticking or coming loose.

Using the Hogue beaver tail on my PC Shield which is my daily carry gun and have been extremely happy. It hasn't moved or slid at all on the grip which isn't surprising seeing as how tight it was going on.

I have Pachmeier on my colt 45 officers model which I like. But on my 686 Classic Hunter a hogue is awesome. I just bought the hogue for my Ruger lcp. Makes it a lot better to shoot, for me anyway. I have never tried talon.

I have experienced both.
Neither improve upon the factory grip. It is great the way it is, on the 9/40.
Now, the 45 ........... it is excessively "agggressive". Old news I know.
The 45 can be improved.
Easiest thing is to lightly sand the offending area's with 600 W/D.
This simply tames the "sharpness" of it.
Perfect! No longer a Cheese Grater on the hip, just perfect.

The 9/40 variants need nothing but shot.

I just ordered a set of Talons this morning and I'm confused. Looking at the reviews and product questions, there are comments about "old style" (seam in the rear of the grip), and "new style" (seam in the front). Anybody know about this? Is one "better" than the other?

The new style will have the seams overlap at the front of the grip. I cut mine to match the groove of the shield instead of it overlapping which I think is how they should have designed them in the first place.

Old style

New style

Do they even give you an option to choose between "old/new" when you order? I don't recall that option

No, they don't give an option. I ordered from Amazon and the picture, which of course, may not be current, shows the seam at the rear. In the product questions, someone asked if the seam was in the front or rear - one answer was front - one answer was rear.

I guess I don't really care, unless the "new style" is "better for some (other) reason. I don't know anyone who has used both and can give an opinion.

Thanks for the links.

I have the rubber style Talon Grips on all of my polymer frame guns. My 1911s are another story but the Talon Grips are excellent on my polymer guns.

Have Talons on all but the Shield. Removed the Talon and added the Hogue HandAll It for the extra girth on the grip. The grip was just a tad bit to slim for my hand. I give them both 5 Stars however.

Only had my shield about 4 weeks , but installed Talon grips , absolutely awesome , for $2 more , i suggest you get the extended mag grip as well , this eliminates the problem with the extended round magazine extra piece ridding up the magazine ..
